Featured Event: National Privacy and Data Governance Congress
The National Privacy and Data Governance Congress will be held on March 6-7-8, 2018 in Calgary. CIPS Alberta has partnered with the Congress organizers, the Privacy and Access Council of Canada, to provide members with access to this important event at reduced registration rates.

The Congress provides an important opportunity for CIPS members to learn from world-class speakers who will share insights about technological trends and regulatory developments that affect efforts to protect personal information and comply with privacy laws. The speaker lineup includes Information and Privacy Commissioners, industry experts, and thought leaders from a cross-section of top law firms, private sector companies, universities, and government agencies from Canada, the US, and the UK. The full  agenda  is at  pacc-ccap.ca/congress/agenda . Attending also provides you with CPD credits.

The Congress provides tremendous value for delegates. Sessions are all plenary, longer than the norm, and registration is limited — to ensure plenty of time for delegates to ask questions and get unscripted answers.

The Congress is a unique opportunity for information management professionals interested in advancing their careers and ensuring that their organizations can meet their legislated privacy obligations and gain a competitive advantage.

Topics during the 3-day event include:
  • Managing a Privacy Breach (Interactive workshop)
  • Privacy Impact Assessment Fundamentals (Interactive workshop)
  • The Changing Context of Open Data and Information  (Interactive workshop to contribute to Canada’s 4th plan on Open Government)
  • Artificial Intelligence, Automation, the Internet of Things and Block Chain Technologies

CIPS Saskatoon March 7 Luncheon:
"YXEIX – Introduction to Saskatoon’s Internet Exchange"
Topic: YXEIX – Introduction to Saskatoon's Internet Exchange

How your internet transits various internet service providers to reach its destination and how the various providers are interconnected is usually an afterthought. Upon hitting the ISP, it's presumed an efficient route will be taken and, through a mix of DNS, BGP and various content caches, your request is fulfilled in a respectable time. But as ISPs and telecoms continue to consolidate into fewer and ever-larger market giants, the notion of local access and resiliency is lost, and data sovereignty is forfeited in favour of US transit routes. With over 800 internet exchanges across the world, IX's play a vital role behind the scenes in providing equitable and local interconnects for networks of all types in a cost-effective manner, under the banner of not-for-profit. Hear about the goals of Saskatchewan's first IX, how it came to be, and how it's helping to support our tech sector.

Speaker: Jason Dunk

Jason Dunk is currently the CTO for Saskatoon Public Schools, a board member for the Saskatoon Internet Exchange and has 20+ years of experience in the IT industry.
