Last summer, I had the honor of sitting on the show ring floor at the Parade of Champions at the Iowa State Fair to receive the lovely gift to Iowa 4-H from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS).  As such, I, along with everyone else in the pavilion, was mesmerized by the young lady singing the National Anthem.  "WOW!  Who is she?" Gala Auction Available Online

The 4th annual Iowa 4-H Gala is less than two weeks away. We encourage you to register to attend this premiere fund raising event hosted by the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The Iowa 4-H Gala will be held Saturday, March 2, at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott. Online bidding for auction items is now available. Take a look at some of our featured items:

 

This Red Cedar Round Top Immigrants Trunk was made by Boone County 4-H'er Kenton Reece. The trunk was crafted with the tools, techniques, and finishes of 1875 Iowa furniture makers. The trunk measures approximately 24 inches high, 42 inches wide and 24 inches front to back. Half the proceeds of the trunk will be returned to the Dog Agility Club and Montana Miners Club of Boone County.

March Deadline Reminders
As the month of February draws to a close, keep these March deadlines 
in mind!
 
Loren Kruse/Successful Farming Volunteer 4-H Learder Award: Nomination application is due March 1.  
 
4-H Scholarships: Deadline is March 1 and must be completed using the new online system. Please note this is different than previous years. No hard copies will be accepted.  
 
Summer 4-H Camp Assistance: Applications must be received by your ISU County Extension Office by March 15 in order to be considered for financial assistance. Late applications will not be considered.  
Levings Takes Position in Florida
  Judy Levings will retire from ISU Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development effective March 15. She has accepted a position as state  4-H educational design specialist and assistant extension scientist with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. In this position she will provide statewide leadership for the design and evaluation of 4-H educational programs and curricula that support extension faculty, staff, and volunteers in carrying out the Florida 4-H mission. 
 
Judy has made a difference in the lives of thousands of young Iowans, and is leaving the 4-H Youth Development program in a better position to achieve ISU Extension and Outreach's strategic goals and vision for K-12 youth outreach. We appreciate Judy's long-time commitment to 4-H Youth Development in Iowa. A retirement reception for Judy is being planned for March 14 at 4:00 at the Extension 4-H Building - more information will be forthcoming.  Please join us in thanking Judy and wishing her well as she begins this next phase of her extension career.
