THE COALITION CONNECTION
February 16, 2018
Dear NCGS Community,

Never has there been a more important time for our girls' schools and their exceptional environments. Our schools are safe spaces where we can nurture girls' authentic selves, their voices, and their leadership. In turn, they are then prepared to affect change be it within their schools, in their local communities, or in the broader world. It is for this reason that the NCGS Board of Trustees, alongside Executive Director Megan Murphy and her stellar team, continue to think about how the National Coalition of Girls' Schools can ensure its place as the leading advocate for girls' schools, connecting and collaborating globally with individuals, schools, and organizations dedicated to empowering and educating girls.

Last week, the Board of Trustees gathered in person at the Atlanta Girls' School for our February meeting. It is an honor and a pleasure to be able to convene at our member schools to reflect on our Coalition, to support the NCGS staff, and to think strategically about the future.

We are optimistic about our future and the impact of our member schools' work for girls and young women. We know we must continually reflect on the impact of our four pillars of advocacy, networking, professional development, and research.
All signs point to our second Global Forum for Girls' Education® -- just four months away -- to network, to develop professionally, and to share advocacy and research work. This will be THE place to be! We anticipate approximately one-thousand attendees coming together to investigate a number of exciting themes:
  • Leading Schools, Leading Girls: Preparing for the Future
  • Iterating to Innovate: Designing Inspired Experiences & Environments
  • Moving Full STEAM Ahead: Closing the Gender Gap
  • Leveraging Partnerships: Making the Most of Local & Global Communities
  • Moving from Reactive to Proactive: Making Health & Wellness a Core Subject
  • Embracing Equity & Inclusion: Managing the Intersection of Identities
If you have yet to register, I encourage you to do so by clicking here. You will be joining participants from over 20 countries and 6 continents, all coming together in the service of girls' education.

NCGS is excited about the future and its increasingly important role in these complex times. For, the future IS our girls and young women.

Final Reminder: Philanthropic Round Table

February 26, 2018
Philanthropic Round Table
Engaging and Educating Girls and Women to be Strategic Philanthropists
Club 101
New York, NY

Presented in partnership with Miss Hall's School, attendees will gain a better understanding of women's philanthropy by hearing from and participating in discussions with thought leaders representing educational institutions, foundations, and non-profit organizations. Panelists and attendees will strategize ways to engage girls and women in becoming life-long philanthropists. Click here to view the panelists.

Past program participant Elenore Falshaw, Director of Development at Louise S. McGehee School, said of her PRT experience, "I found the Philanthropic Round Table inspiring. My head of school has long wanted to integrate a philanthropy arm with our stellar Community Service program at McGehee. I found talking to Miss Hall's girls at my table just as valuable and enjoyable as listening to the eclectic group of speakers, who covered a philanthropic range from the billions to a small collective who had given away $750,000 over ten years. I would attend every year, if time allowed, and wholeheartedly recommend attendance to any development professional."

Global Forum Focus

NCGS could not coordinate the Global Forum on Girls' Education® II without the support and involvement of its network of strategic partners. It is our pleasure to introduce you to the final four of these mission-aligned organizations:

The Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN) supports two life-changing programs that empower students to break the cycle of poverty through education: The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYWLS), a high-performing network of all-girls public secondary schools, and CollegeBound Initiative (CBI), a comprehensive college access and success program for young women and men. TYWLS empower young women to achieve their higher education dreams and to fulfill their learning and leadership potential. NCGS is thrilled to continue its longstanding partnership with YWLN, which co-presented the National Conference on Girls' Education with NCGS in 2012 and 2014.

The Latin American Association of Differentiated Educational Centres (Red ALCED) is a non-profit organization representing eight Latin American countries. Red ALCED provides support for single-sex schools and institutions interested in providing training, research, and guidance on all issues pertaining to single-sex education and differentiated instruction for boys and for girls in Latin America and worldwide.

Round Square is a global network of innovative schools in 40 countries on six continents that share a passion for experiential learning and character education. The Round Square approach is built around six IDEALS of learning: International understanding, Democracy, Environmental stewardship, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. Students and faculty in member schools are encouraged to discover and develop their own capabilities through a range of experiences, activities, collaborative projects, and challenges, both in and beyond the curriculum, including international, regional, and local social service projects, exchanges, and conferences.

The Philippine Alliance for Girls' Education (PAGE) is a network of 19 schools working towards the empowerment of girls and young women in the Philippines. It was the ultimate outcome of Project COGENT (Cooperation for Girls' Education, Nurturance, and Training) that was administered in 2013-2014 through a Spring Democracy Grant from the US Department of State. PAGE covers initiatives that engage girls' schools in the sharing of best practices, research, and programs in the hope of strengthening efforts toward quality, relevant, and sustainable education and leadership opportunities. PAGE is serving as a key player in sustaining the discourse of empowered participation of girls and young women in nation building and social transformation.
