What Philanthropists Need to Know
Recently, ACF and United Way partnered to host Jason Sabo, United Way's man at the Capitol, who spoke about the effect the Legislature's budget cuts will have on our nonprofits.
He urged philanthropists and donors to learn everything they can about the cuts and respond as best they could to the needs, pointing out low-income elderly and children in particular as demographic groups most as risk.
We also urge you to learn more about this issue. Please see the cover story of the latest issue of GivingCity Austin, "Philanthropy at the Gate," for an overview of the situation and an interview with Sabo, and share it with your colleagues.

Saving Paper, Saving Money
Susan Finfer, ACF finance director, is proud of the work ACF has done to save money and trees. Starting in January, checks issued for scholarship awards will now include both the check itself and the issue letter on a single sheet of paper.
"We'll save staff time and letterhead by putting both in a single document," she says. Finfer and the finance department have been working towards this for months. "It took a lot of communication with the printer," she says, "but it's worth it!"
