KHANDRO NYINGTIK TOGAL PRACTICES

 His Eminence Jigme Lodro Rinpoche

Thursday - Sunday, February 27 - March 2; 7-9 pm Th-Fri, 10-12 and 2-4 Sat-Sun

Location - Ada Pierce McCormack Building Library, UofA campus

Cost - $100 (all 4 days)

Khandro Nyingtik (The Heart Essence of the Dakinis) is a collection of Dzogchen teachings taught by Padmasambhava. These are part of a larger collection called the Nyingtik Yabshi that includes the Khandro Nyingtik from Padmasambhava, Vima Nyingtik from Vimalamitra, Lama Yangtik and Khandro Yangtik commentaries by Longchenpa respectively. Together these four Dzogchen texts are known as the Nyingtik Yabshi - The Four Branches of Heart Essence.

Terdak Lingpa wrote that "In the other classes of tantra found in the Vajrayana, the meaning is hidden using vajra words. In contrast, this meaning is taught clearly in the Khandro Nyingtik and the commentaries that elucidate their essential meaning. This eminent and supreme path of the profound and secret Great Perfection is referred to as the 'Heart Essence of the Dakinis.' It brings about a swift realization of the way things truly are...it is the unsurpassed entrance for those fortunate individuals with a karmic connection to the teachings."

Togal means "leaping over." These are the most advanced of the Dzogchen teachings. It is said to quickly bring realization in this lifetime, manifesting as the "rainbow body." It follows development of a solid grounding in the practice of trekcho and involves working directly with the clear light inherently present in all phenomena. Togal is best known for the practices "sky gazing" and the Four Visions.

For students who participated in the earlier Khandro Nyingtik summer retreat (or who have similar empowerment and teachings such as Yeshe Lama or Longchen Nyingtik) HE Jigme Lodro Rinpoche will be completing this series of teachings with the Dzogchen Togal practices. These are the most advanced of all Tibetan Buddhist practices and a very precious opportunity to receive them from a highly qualified teacher.

H.E. Jigme Lodro Rinpoche was born in 1969 in Golok-Dhome, Tibet. Chakshul Tulku Sangye Lodro and Doctor Gyarong Samdup Gyatso recognized him as the reincarnation of Genyen Dharmata, said to be the server of the sixteen principal arhat disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha as well as a realized master from the Alasha Monastery at Five Peaked Mountain in China, only three months after his birth. At age eight he joined Talang, a large monastery in Golok, Gemang Hermitage Place, Larong, the city of Dharma in Sertha, and other Dharma places in Kham. He studied sutras, tantras and Tibetan culture and religion, becoming well-known for his qualities and knowledge.

In 1998 he went to India and became a great editor for both the Tibetan-in-exile government and private centers. More than two hundred of his essays have been published in Tibet and Tibet-in-exile communities. Some of his books have been published by acclaimed publication centers of the Tibet government-in-exile, including the Department of Education, Department of Information, as well as Tibetan cultural and religious publication centers. His writings are well-respected by many great scholars. H.H. the Dalai Lama sent Jigme Rinpoche a letter praising him for his writing.

In January 2005, H.E. Trulshig Rinpoche also recognized and declared that he is indeed the reincarnation of Genyen Dharmata. Accordingly, H.H. Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche, the throne holder of the Nyingmapa lineage, enthroned Tulku Jigme Rinpoche in Bodhgaya, India.

Currently, Jigme Lodro Rinpoche is compiling additional historical accounts of the Nyingma schools and the Tibetan culture and religion. He aspires to establish a research center in India called the Ngayur Nyingma Research Center to begin work on the Chronicle Treatises of the Nyingma lineage, as well as a Nyingma Lineage Comprehensive Dictionary.

INNATE HAPPINESS: REALIZING COMPASSION-EMPTINESS

An eBook by Khenpo Drimed Dawa

Innate Happiness provides background and a series of incremental steps toward compassion-emptiness, enlightenment, for Western householders in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It is largely adapted from the teachings of Padmasambhava, the second Buddha. The book guides the reader through a brief history of Buddhism in India and Tibet, as well as its major principles. This is followed by 52 concise daily practices on the Path of Individual Liberation, the Path of Altruism, the Path of Tantra, and the Path of Great Perfection. Each path takes the reader through the Three Teachings: ethics, meditation, and wisdom. These are then summarized into an explanation of the innate happiness we know as enlightenment, the realization of compassion-emptiness. Thus, it covers a complete cycle for study, contemplation, meditation and realization. Each practice is highly suitable for the busy lives of Westerners with little time for formal meditation. This is the core text for our Natural Liberation classes.

The eBook is available from Amazon.com for $9.99. Free readers are available for most devices. May ALL beings be happy.
