Welcome to the February 2016 Newsletter. This month, I'm pleased to announce the release of a brand new iPad app, Jazz Saxophone Etudes Volume 2, as well as some great photos from the 2016 NAMM show, as well as photos and a video from my gig at the historic Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach.

Thank you for subscribing to the newsletter.

Sincerely,

Greg Fishman

As much as I enjoy creating educational videos of teaching concepts, I thought that it would be a good idea to share a video that showed me playing in a real-world situation, applying the concepts that I teach.

One aspect of learning jazz that's not emphasized often enough...developing the ability to focus your concentration and listen carefully to all of the musicians playing with you, while simultaneously creating your solo. It was a pleasure playing with this great rhythm section. I'm leaving space for them to respond to my ideas, and playing in the moment (Lobster Theory). It's a collective performance, rather than just a soloist with a rhythm section in the background. Everyone's interacting with each other, which makes the performance really come to life.

This video features Brian Charette on the Hammond SK1 Organ and Andy Senesi on drums. This is from a fun gig with the great Doug Webb and Vincent Herring, Mel Martin, Greg Osby and myself. For more video from this gig, click HERE.

NAMM 2016 & Gig at The Lighthouse with Doug Webb

I had a fantastic time at NAMM 2016 and at the Doug Webb Saxophone Summit at The Lighthouse in Hermosa beach. It was wonderful to see so many friends, fans and colleagues at the shows. Here are just a few pictures from the two great events...

At NAMM 2016 with the new "Through the Eye of the Saxophone" 2016 Calendar (available HERE).
Playing at The Lighthouse on 1/24/16 with Mel Martin, Doug Webb, Vincent Herring, Brian Charente, Greg Osby & Andy Sanesi on drums. What an honor to play with these great musicians at this historic venue!

NAMM 2016 was incredible. Everyone seemed to be there! I had a great time checking out equipment and meeting friends and fans of my books.

Special thanks to Kristen McKeon, Kevin Garren and Thomas Kmiecik and all of my friends at D'Addario. Thanks also to BK at Silverstein Works.

Over the years, I've received suggestions from teachers and students that I should form a user group on Facebook, where people from around the world could post videos of themselves and their students playing my etudes and discussing their teaching strategies using my materials.

It's a closed group, so everyone's cool! We now have over 900 members in the group. Please join us.
