Location: 1510 NW Maple St, Issaquah

Volunteers and staff at Eastside Baby Corner collect community donations, purchase and distribute children's and maternity items to families in collaboration with virtually every organization helping families in our area. Serving a broad area across King County that extends to the Cascade foothills and from south of Renton into south Snohomish County, EBC serves as a diaper bank, a clothing bank, and a food source for more than 500 kids each week. Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize donated items for redistribution to families in need on the eastside. Please dress in layers, the warehouse is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. For your safety, please wear closed toed shoes. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated while you volunteer.

Ages: Families with children ages 7 and older are welcome to volunteer. All children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult who will work with them for the entire shift.

Stretching 100 miles along Interstate 90 from the small town of Thorp in Central Washington to the Seattle waterfront, the Mountains to Sound Greenway is a "Wilderness on the Metro," a place to walk or bike or picnic, to quickly get outside and explore the beauty of the Northwest. The Greenway Native Plant Nursery is home to over 20,000 native trees and shrubs. The trees and shrubs at the nursery are potted by volunteers and will grow for one to two years before being planted in parks and forests throughout the Mountains to Sound Greenway. These trees and shrubs are an important part of keeping our natural areas healthy and potting these plants is the first step in restoring these areas. Nursery events are great for all ages and a fun way to learn more about plants native to this region.

Ages: Children ages 11 and older are welcome to volunteer with their families.

Environmental Service Projects
EarthCorps

Date/Time: Saturdays, 10am - 2pm (a few weekday events are also available)

Location: Seattle, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Tukwila, Tacoma, Federal Way, Shoreline and more. Check the EarthCorps calendar for weekly project locations.

Each year, EarthCorps leads more than 10,000 volunteers in environmental service projects in western Washington. While the exact tasks at hand vary, EarthCorps projects focus on improving the forests and parks in our local cities. Healthy and thriving forests are vital to our community because they absorb and naturally filter rain water, absorb toxins in the air, produce clean oxygen, provide living spaces for wildlife, and they create a place for people to connect with the outdoors. In order to help create healthy forests, we focus on removing aggressive weeds (like English Ivy or Himalayan Blackberry), maintaining areas where these weeds have been removed, and planting trees and shrubs during the rainy season. EarthCorps supplies gloves, tools, water, light refreshments, and volunteer education. EarthCorps will provide everything you need to know about tool use and safety, forest health, information on the park, and the importance of the work you'll be doing. No prior experience necessary, just come ready to learn something new!

Ages: Family members of all ages are welcome to volunteer. Only a select few sites are not appropriate for very young volunteers and are specified as such on the event info page.

Time Commitment: Four hours

Contact: Volunteer coordinator, [email protected], 206.322.9296 ext. 217. Register for projects on the EarthCorps calendar

Foster an Animal
PAWS

Date/Time: Flexible. Some animals will need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for up to three months.

Location: 15305 44th Ave W, Lynnwood. Foster volunteers must be able to get to the PAWS shelter in Lynnwood on a regular basis.

PAWS foster families provide a temporary home for kittens, cats, puppies and dogs in need. These families provide food and care to homeless animals that are either too young or sick to be adopted. PAWS is in desperate need of foster homes! By taking an animal into your right away home on a temporary basis, you provide them with a safe place to rest and heal, while giving us additional time to find them a permanent home. By providing safe temporary homes, PAWS foster families prevent overcrowding at PAWS Companion Animal Shelter, while having lots of fun! Click here for more detailed information about fostering an animal.

Ages: An adult must be the primary caregiver but children and teens can help with foster animals in your home.
