Why is having a support system so important?

Scroll down for the answer.

Dear Friend,

February is a month to recommit to all we hold dear - it is also a month to refocus on health and wellness with its heart-healthy messaging and the promise of Spring around the corner.  Our LFA-Indiana Chapter hosted two special February programs with the successful February 10th 'Living with Lupus' educational seminar in Greenfield (over 40 attendees!) offering Chair Yoga and the upcoming "Giving is Always in Fashion" WORTH Trunk Show scheduled for February 26th at 4:30 pm in Carmel presented by board members Sharon Robinson Reed, Tonya Sullivan, and Mary Barnard (please contact Susan Perry at Susan@lupusindiana.org for more information).

We are also excited in February to announce four new members to our LFA-Indiana Board, all recently confirmed:  Amy Higdon, Marti Babb, Tony West and Jean LeRoux Guillen.  This strengthens board membership to 13 members presently. With greater participation we move forward to execute the objectives in our 2016-2019 Strategic Plan, which we invite you to become familiar with!  To view our Strategic Plan, please visit here. Our chapter thanks all who gave valuable input and feedback throughout last year's planning process --- you showed that you truly do have a heart for lupus!

We Want to Hear Your Story!

LFA-Indiana has joined with the Indiana Patient Access Coalition to support a new step therapy bill authored by Senator Michael Crider. Step therapy policies are on the rise by insurance companies and oftentimes fail to take into account a person's medical situation or history. Step therapy requires patients to take other potentially ineffective medications first before insurance pays for a physician's prescribed original prescription - resulting in delay that can sometimes deny quality patient care and the decision making of patients and physicians.
If you or a loved one has experienced this process, please let us know at  info@lupusindiana.org

Early Treatment is Key to Minimize Infections in People with Lupus

For some time, we have known that people with lupus are at increased risk for many different kinds of infections. A new study looked specifically to see if the rates of hospitalization for serious infections have increased over recent years among people with lupus and compared the changes to the rates of hospitalization in people without lupus. This is the first study to look at such a comparison

LFA, Indiana Chapter Specialty License Plate

We are collecting signatures to submit to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to request a LFA, Indiana Chapter specialty license plate. The petition requires a minimum of 500 signatures of Indiana residents with a drivers license who pledge to purchase the specialty license plate. It is $40 to purchase a specialty license plate and our Chapter would receive $25 for each specialty plate purchased.  According to the BMV, this may be tax deductible but you should check with your tax advisor.
If you would be willing to help us in meeting our goal to collect 500 signatures by April 1, 2016 so that LFA, Indiana Chapter specialty plates are available for purchase in 2017:
  1. Download the petition
  2. Collect signatures from your family and friends who would be willing to pledge to order a speciality license plate. Even if you're the only name on the petition, that's okay - that's one more signature towards our goal!
  3. Mail petition to our office at 9302 N. Meridian St., Suite 203, Indianapolis, IN 46260
