Child abuse: 7% of Australian Catholic priests alleged to be involved
An inquiry examining institutional sex abuse in Australia has heard 7% of the nation's Catholic priests allegedly abused children between 1950 and 2010.In one religious order, over 40% of church figures were accused of abuse. Over 4,440 people claim to have been victims between 1980 and 2015, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse was told. Read more.

Cardinal Dolan's compensation program has paid 31 victims abused by clergy
So far, 31 people have accepted settlement offers. Officials would not discuss how much money they got, citing ongoing negotiations with other victims. Nine people have yet to decide whether to accept the money, which requires the victims to waive the right to sue over the abuse. Victims are barred from bringing lawsuits by New York's statute of limitations on claims of child sex abuse. Victims must file civil lawsuits or criminal charges before they turn 23. Gov. Cuomo has vowed to get rid of the statute of limitations. Learn more.

SOL reform reintroduced in PA
The measure, Senate Bill 261, would eliminate the criminal statute of limitations on child sexual abuse cases and remove the civil statute on certain cases against individual defendants, essentially giving most future survivors a lifetime to sue their abuser or seek prosecution. Learn more.

Teleconference with Susan Ross, Ph.D.
Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 8:00pm ET
While the use of spousal imagery to understand the relation between Christ and the Church has a long history, complementarity's framework for the relationship of the bridegroom to the bride is rooted in inequality. That has profound implications for our sacramental life. Learn more about how gendered roles play out not only in our ministerial life but in the way sacraments have been conceived and administered. Beyond spousal imagery, learn what other models may be useful for today's church. Register here.
