Specializing in Special Education

To promote the University's Blindness and Low Vision Studies programs, the department invited local undergraduate students on campus for an open house at the Hafter Student Community Center on Thursday, January 26. The first of its type for the BLVS program, the goal of the event was for seniors pursuing a special education degree to learn about Salus programs they may be interested in starting as they begin teaching in the fall and to enhance their current skills while student teaching. Fun and Friends at First Dean's Winterfest

According to Monae Kelsey, associate director of Student Engagement and assistant director of Admissions, the premise of the event on Friday, January 20, started with a small idea that transitioned to a larger scale to show the Office of Student Affairs in a different light-one not so serious. The goal was for students to interact with Dr. Caldwell in a capacity they don't get to see as often, namely, one when he is not a facilitator of the University's policies.

"It was a great afternoon," Dr. Caldwell said. "The event exceeded my expectations, all because of the creativity and enthusiasm of our Salus Student Ambassadors." Read More
D'Arrigo Family Gallery Brings Art to Salus

Attendees of previous "Looking Out for Kids" charity fundraisers at the Hafter Student Community Center have enjoyed pop-up art shows: solo ventures from local artist Elynne Rosenfeld and a group show last year with work from ARTsisters, a local women's professional art organization. Due to the positive response of these past exhibits, art shows will now be available for more permanent viewing. The opening of the new D'Arrigo Family Gallery in the Hafter Student Community Center, dedicated in honor of the University's chief of staff Brian Zuckerman's wife Jennifer's family will be available to both the Salus and local communities. Tinnitus Awareness Week: Certificate Program Provides Crucial Education

This year's Tinnitus Awareness Week was February 6-12, and Salus University educators stress that the need for knowledge surrounding this condition is great. According to the American Tinnitus Association (ATA), this condition-commonly referred to as "ringing in the ears"-affects nearly 45 million people in the United States and of those, 20 million have chronic tinnitus.

In 2013, the University added an online Advanced Studies in Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Certificate Program to its menu of advanced studies options. The comprehensive curriculum, six courses in total, provides a framework for best practices in the assessment and management of tinnitus and hyperacusis. Read More
Volunteer Opportunity

Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, right across the street from Salus University, is looking for your help in giving back to our community. Besides being a synagogue for about 900 families, KI's open door policy includes members of many different faiths and races. What began as a few small events to give back to the folks in the community who have so little, has turned into a community partnership program. On the fourth Sunday of each month, the synagogue opens its doors to families and children in the community to provide them with a meal prepared and served by volunteers. The last KI dinner fed over 80 members of the community, including children. The next dinner will be on Sunday, March 26, at the synagogue from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Upcoming dates this year are April 23, May 28, June 25, July 23, and August 27. Volunteers are needed for food preparation (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.), set-up (2:30 p.m.), serving (4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.), clean-up (6 p.m. -7 p.m.), and everyone's favorite, children's programming (5 p.m. - 6 p.m.). To volunteer, please call 215-887-8700.
