Getting to Know You

January has been a busy month for us here at TSC, with folks staying here from as far away as British Columbia, Canada, and as a close as 3 miles away. Because many folks are visiting us for the first time, we will highlight a member of our staff in each of the upcoming newsletters.

Toni Thomas-Feren has been the Executive Director of TSC since its inception in 2010.  Trained as a nurse, she began her journey with the Community as a boarding student at what is now Bethany School. While living in North Carolina and after raising her 3 children, she felt called to return to Glendale to reconnect with the Sisters. She became an Oblate* of the Community in 2005.

* What's an oblate? Oblates of the Community of the Transfiguration are women and men who, responding to Christ's example and invitation, live out their baptismal covenant by making an offering of self to God through the Community of the Transfiguration.  You can learn more by visiting their website.

Walk in the path of Jesus with the Community of the Transfiguration April 13 - 16, 2017

Maundy (Holy) Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are three of the holiest days of the Christian year.  Referred to as "the Triduum" because it encompasses the three days prior to Easter.

Throughout the three days, the Community of the Transfiguration, like other Christian communities, hold worship services in the tradition of the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. A unique dimension of these liturgical celebrations is that they are wrapped in 24 hour prayer vigils.

If you would like to pray at the 'garden' and at the 'tomb' between Maundy Thursday and the Easter Vigil on Saturday night, or if you would like to come to a quiet place to experience any part of these three days and Easter Sunday, we welcome you.  You may register on line  or contact ctretreats@gmail.com or call 513.771.2171 by April 10.  Rooms will be available in Beth-Anna Cottage at no charge. Donations are welcome.

May 19-21, 2017

Returning to TSC Kathleen Dowling Singh will lead a weekend retreat for us in May.

Kathleen's newest book,
The Grace in Living, follows on her two previous books, Grace in Dying and Grace in Aging. In the November/December issue of Spirituality and Health Magazine there is an article about her new book. You can her a conversation between Kathleen and Rabbi Rami through this link

She will spend time with us to share her freshest insights and help us recognize the ever-presence of grace in our lives.

When we recognize the grace in living, we can begin to trust it and then consciously abide in it.

At a recent retreat, one of the participants, Janet Forde, wrote this poem. It is shared with her permission.

Transfiguration at St Mary's

Romanesque church
Elizabethan manor
Episcopalian nuns
Ecumenical convent

Full parking lot-
Full infirmary.
A wooded estate
Owned by a great horned owl

Open.
Honoring all.
Yet fixed firmly by the sisters' faith.
Filled by the Spirit with Hope.

We came to be centered.
To seek joy and peace.
To write from our hearts and
Share with our friends.

495  Albion Ave
Signals and embodies the past
Will our words, our seeking, our soul force
Bless St Mary's?
