Make Valentine's and "Care Kits" for Women & Children
Sanctuary for Families

Date/Time: Valentine packages should be delivered by Friday, February 9; Care Kits may be delivered any time.

Location: Valentines and Care Kits should be dropped off or sent to Sanctuary's lower Manhattan location. Please contact Emily Lo Bue, [email protected], for location details.

Sanctuary for Families is the leading nonprofit agency in New York State dedicated exclusively to serving the needed of domestic violence victims, sex trafficking victims, and their children. Sanctuary envisions a world in which freedom from gender violence is a basic human right.

Valentine's Day can be a difficult time for victims of gender-based violence who are living in shelters. It is often a reminder of the violence that brought them to Sanctuary. Write an inspirational message, make cards, or include wrapped candy - whatever your heart desires! Also, February is National Children's Dental Health Month. In addition to a Valentine's greeting, consider including a child's toothbrush, toothpaste and floss for the recipient to share with her children.

Sanctuary for Families is also in need of "Care Kits" for both adults and children. Care Kits consist of ziplock bags filled with basic travel-sized toiletry essentials (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, hand sanitizer, etc). Please also add a note of encouragement and friendship to each bag! This is a great project to do with kids on a rainy day.  Contact Emily LoBue for delivery information.

Create a Card for a Senior
DOROT

Date/Time: Any time, at your convenience

Location: Mail your cards and a Volunteer Return form to:
DOROT
Attn: Card Making Project
171 West 85th Street
New York, NY 10024

DOROT's greeting card project helps bring joy and celebration to some of our frailest and most isolated seniors. Each month, DOROT mails over 200 birthday cards to seniors. Every card is designed and created by you, our volunteers. Often, this card is the only recognition a senior receives on his or her birthday.

Making a card is easy and fun! Whether you're looking for something to do on a rainy day, or planning an activity for a youth group, all you need is a bit of paper, a few pens, and a little imagination. Be sure to use colored paper for the outside, but use white for the inside to make it easier to read.

Tips:
  • The card you create should be able to fit into a 6x9 standard envelope. This is the type DOROT uses to mail out the cards to our seniors.
  • Write in large block (print) letters. As people get older, many have a hard time reading small print.
After you finish your cards, our office volunteers will address and mail them to seniors.

Ages: Everyone is welcome to participate

Time Commitment: Varies

Date/Time: Anytime

Location: Mail your cards and $1 per card to:
Soldiers' Angels
2700 NE Loop 410, Suite 310
San Antonio, Texas 78217

Holidays like Valentine's Day are fun to celebrate when you have loved ones or friends to share the day with. Unfortunately, our military heroes often find themselves alone or feeling homesick during holidays. The mission of Soldiers' Angels is to make sure no one who serves this country feels unloved - and that's especially true on Valentine's Day! You and your family can help by making or purchasing Valentines cards for our military and veteran heroes. Why do we ask for the $1 per card? The $1 helps cover the cost to distribute the thousands of cards we receive. Have questions? Check out our FAQ's here .
  • Feel free to purchase or make your Valentines.
  • Our heroes love hearing from children. Making Valentines is a good activity to do with the kids one afternoon.
  • It's also a fun activity for your office, club, or civic group.
  • Be sure to write a note of encouragement or thanks on your cards.
  • Don't be afraid to sign your name!
