The auto show season is upon us...which means that Spring must be just around the corner! Our own Canadian International Auto Show drives into town on February 16 and continues at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre until the 25th. If the past is any indication of the future, this year's exhibition should be bursting with exciting new product unveilings and vehicle innovations.

One of the most anticipated presentations this year will be the return of the Ford Ranger, which just debuted in Detroit. Many of our own fleet clients and small contractors have expressed interest in seeing this new mid-size truck after what will be an eight-year production hiatus!

Sources tell us that the new Ford Ranger comes back to the market with a Ford-built four-cylinder 2.3-litre turbo producing 310 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque integrated with new off-road technology, two cab offerings, and three trim levels. It's expected to go on sale next spring.

As I've mentioned, this year's Toronto auto show promises to be bigger and better with more attractions than ever before. It's your opportunity to shop and compare from amongst more than 1,000 cars, trucks, and SUVs. There are exotics, classics, muscle cars, electric, and concept vehicles. So make sure you dress comfortably and wear your walking shoes because there's a lot of displays and points of interest spread out over a vast area!

Quest is also giving away four pairs of tickets to this year's auto show! Just tell us what your dream car is or what you're most looking forward to seeing at the show, and you could be selected to go for free! Enter at [email protected].

I hope to see you there.

Winners and Losers from the Detroit Auto Show
2018 Honda Accord Wins North American Car of the Year

This year's Detroit Auto Show, in the very city often referred to as the birthplace of the automobile, has once again attracted the most prominent assembly of automotive enthusiasts, journalists, and manufacturers from around the world.

News and information coming out of the show was closely monitored by Quest's own senior representatives in order to keep abreast of all the latest technology, innovations, and manufacturer presentations.

One of the highlights of this show every year are the numerous automobile category awards voted on by no less than 60 professional journalists.

As these awards are the most highly anticipated of the year, especially by manufacturers whose products sell throughout North America, the definitive honour of North American Car of the Year came down to a contest between the new Toyota Camry, Honda's revitalized Accord, and the revolutionary Kia Stinger.

Certainly all worthy candidates for the award as best of the best; however, since there can be only one, this year's award went to Honda's flagship Accord.

Other accolades at the show included:

- Volvo's XC60 triumphed over the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Honda's Odyssey to win the utility category (which covers everything from crossovers to minivans).

-The Lincoln Navigator edged out the Ford Expedition and Chevy's Colorado ZR2 in the truck category.

2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt
Courtesy of Ford/Car and Driver

Ford has been producing special edition Mustangs for years, but the Bullitt just revealed at the 2018 Detroit auto show has some special appeal since it comes 50 years after the film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen was released -- a film that to this day remains unrivaled for car chase scenes.

Perhaps that was because McQueen, driving a 1968 Mustang fastback with a pool ball shifter for the manual transmission -- attributes the 2019 model has -- was the epitome of cool. And while Ford has sold Bullitt editions before, this latest that one comes 50 years after the film has anniversary appeal.

Exterior paint choices on the new Bullitt -- which is due out this summer -- are either Shadow Black or the classic Dark Highland Green of the movie Mustang. It comes with active valve performance exhaust system, open air induction system, and the intake manifold Shelby Mustang GT350. Other standard equipment includes a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch, all-digital LCD instrument cluster, identical in function to the cluster.

Options include navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, and various safety equipment as well as Recaro seats, a unique MagneRide suspension system, so it can be easy to live with as a daily driver or a collector car. It also can be had with an upgraded sound system -- though it may be hard to upgrade on the sound already coming from engine and exhaust.
