Thanks Sue!

Sue Gee APR has been a strong supporter of CPRS-VI for years and is well-known for her support of APR candidates. During her term as CPRS-VI Vice President from June 1, 2016 to January 31, 2018, she served on the Executive and chaired the Web Committee.
 
Susan began her MBA at UVic in September. In a meeting with the board this fall, she said “despite my best intentions, I need to step away from my board position to focus all my energy on school.”
 
“Having Sue at my side for the majority of my term as President has been both fun and productive,” said CPRS-VI President Peggy Kulmala APR. “Sue has been instrumental in improving board governance and has played a huge role in our successes over the past two - program years. I am thankful for her guidance and support, and wish her well in her studies!”
Congratulations to New APRs!
Congratulations to CPRS-VI members Jonathon Dyck and Eric Berndt on their APR, the designation internationally recognized as the highest global standard of excellence in public relations and communications management.

"Congrats Eric and Jonathon! The process of earning your APR helps you reinforce your strengths, identify your opportunities for growth, and demonstrates to all your personal and professional commitment to excellence," said Peggy. "Well done and welcome!"

Eric and Jonathon are part of an APR cohort of 17, who will be honoured by their peers on the first day of Connexions 2018 , the CPRS National Conference in Charlottetown, P.E.I., May 27-29, 2018.
Welcome Jonathan!
Jonathon Dyck has joined the CPRS-VI Board of Directors, serving on its Executve as Governance Chair.

"We are pleased to welcome Jon," said Peggy. "His experience serving on CPRS Northern Light's Board, including as its President, will help us as we roll up our sleeves and get ready for the next board and our new website!"

CPRS-VI at RRU Career Conference
CPRS-VI was well-represented at the 5th Annual Career Conference at Royal Roads University, which was live-streamed to the university's learners around the world.

President Peggy Kulmala was on the Communications Panel representing CPRS-VI, sharing our research and advocacy insights into the local job market. She was joined by:

  • Anna King, Chief Marketing Officer, Benifactor Capital Inc., 
  • Chris Burdge, Owner, bWEST Interactive / Co-Founder, Social Media Camp / Founder, SOHO Summit, 
  • Kerry Slavens, Editor in Chief, Page One Publishing, 
  • Lia Threlfall, Communications Manager, BC Games Society, and 
  • Pablo Miranda, National Advertising Manager, Victoria Times Colonist 

Membership Engagement Director Ruth Mojeed gave the conference's keynote address , sharing her perspectives and her experiences since her 2015 arrival in Canada which - on top of working for Cabinet Priorities with the Government of B.C.- includes:

  • completing her MA in Intercultural and International Communication at Royal Roads and a learning and change management certificate from Harvard University,
  • volunteering for the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre, the Victoria Foundation and CPRS-VI,
  • hosting and producing the Shaw Community Access television show “Community Connect”, and 
  • being named a Black History Month 2018 Laureate by the Victoria African Caribbean Culture Society and the BC Black History Awareness Society!

CPRS Awards of Excellence
The 2018 Awards season is in full swing and members and non-members alike can submit their best public relations and communications work from the last two years for one (or more) of our Awards of Excellence until Feb. 26 at 11:59 PM (ET). 

While you’re at it, don’t forget to show your fellow members some love by nominating them for one of our Major Awards. As always, Major Award nominations are open to members only and are free to submit. Names may be submitted for consideration until Feb. 26 at 11:59 PM (ET).

CPRS-VI Denis Racine Student Bursary

Deadline: Feb. 18, 2018 at midnight
 
Since 2001, CPRS-VI has been making it easier for Vancouver Island's aspiring public relations professionals to stay current in their field. 
 
In memory of the CPRS-VI past-president Denis Racine, CPRS-VI provides at least one Vancouver Island student member an annual bursary to support their educational goals. Starting 2018, the bursary has been increased to $1,000!
 
To be eligible for the bursary, you must:
 
  1. be a CPRS-VI member in good standing,
  2. be registered in a communications-related post-secondary educational program,
  3. have completed three or more communications/public relations-related courses, and
  4. be a resident of Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands.
 
Make sure you submit your application form by Feb. 18!
