This week in worship...February Sermon Series
Sermon Series
Sermon Series: Telling Your Jesus Story
This is a series about the encounter. When we encounter Christ there is something
that happens not only in us but in the world. Faith is a boundary--breaking business, especially faith in Christ. How do we let our encounters with Christ change us, challenge us, move us, transform us?

Sermon Title: "Extravagant Love"

Scripture:  John 12:1 - 8

Dr. Will Cotton will preach at all the 9:40 and 11 am worship services this Sunday. Rev. Katie Meek will preach at the 8:30 am service.   The Source , our weekly devotional guide, is available on the church website . Our Alleluia Ensemble will be singing at the 8:30 and 11 am sanctuary services. The CrossRoads Worship Band will be leading the CrossRoads service.

We will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion at all three worship services.

Please join us in worship this Sunday at  8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (FLC), or 11 am (Sanctuary).
Words from Will...
Super Sunday at First Church
Super Bowl LI is this Sunday between the perennial favorite New England Patriots and the upstart Atlanta Falcons. The hype for the game will be immense as will the sales of snacks and alcohol. Which of the multi-million dollar commercials will be the favorite? What will Lady Gaga say or do? But here is the truth...on February 6, all that will be left are the memories and the clean-up. The one exception to this is where too much alcohol has been consumed. Super Bowl Sunday has more reports of spouse and family abuse than any other day of the year.

Rev. Dr. Will Cotton
Dr. Will Cotton
But Super Sunday can happen this weekend, regardless of whether your team wins or even made it to the big game. In three worship services, the people of God will gather at First Church to praise God, share the love of Christ, offer ourselves in ministry and share in the Lord's Supper. As we praise God, we will sense the presence of Christ filling our hearts, minds and spirits. As we share the love of Christ we will feel burdens lifted and have healing happen in a variety of ways. As we offer ourselves in ministry both inside and outside the walls of the church, we will follow Christ more closely not just on Sunday, but even more on the other six days. As we share in the Lord's Supper, we will experience the profound mystery of having the love of Christ touch and deepen our walk with God. And here is the truth...on February 6, things are different because we have shared in things on February 5 that last forever.

The new preaching series is Telling Your Jesus Story.  My guess is you will hear some stories of Jesus like you have never heard them before. I look forward to sharing a Super Sunday with you and with that family member, friend, relative or neighbor you bring with you.

Sincerely in Christ,

Will Cotton Signature

United Methodist Men
UMM...we're fishing for more good men.
The United Methodist Men are serious about one of the focuses of our Bread of Life ministries, as the red FLC Kitchen wall says. John 6:35 says it all and we want to share that with you! We are also very serious about our leisure...God wants us to work hard for him, but God knows to fight for Him, we must also rest and have fun in His world to re-charge. Fishing for men is our focus, but we also fish for fish on our retreat each Spring (look for news on this year's upcoming event)...we have fun and, of course, we eat well.

UMM is trying to be innovative and do things that you may be interested in...just ask us. If you are a man in this church, you are already a Methodist Man. Come by and share how we can meet your needs and our church's needs. We look forward to meeting you!

A little incentive for new prospective members...
Are you interested in getting involved in United Methodist Men? For prospective members, we will host a Men's Only Round Rock Express Season Opening Game on  Thursday, April 6 at 7:05 PM . Watch for more info soon.

Fun Fact: UMM raises approximately $18,000 each year and gives it ALL to great causes in our church, our community, our country and our world ministries.
Dinner Groups
New to the church? Want to know more people at church?   Join a dinner group!
As a dinner group member, you will host a dinner about twice a year. You select the menu for the evening. It might be burgers on the grill, Tex-Mex, a spaghetti supper...it's up to you when you host. The other people in your group will bring the side dishes, appetizer, dessert and everyone provides their own drink.

We have openings for the month of February and are forming new groups all the time.  These small groups have proven to be powerful in forming lasting friendships, expanding the number of people in the congregation that you know. They can also provide important support in times of trouble.  For more information please contact: Patti Ruth, pjruth1@gmail.com or 512-944-5339.
Methodism 101

What makes United Methodists unique? How are we like other Christians, and yet unlike them since we see some things differently?
You are invited to a three-week class to explore these questions: our history, our theology, our way of living, and our place in God's work and in our world today.  Led by Dr. John Clifford, Methodism 101 begins on Sunday February 12, and will meet at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings in Adkins Education Building 5-124.  For more information or if you have questions, please contact Dr. John Clifford,  jayefsee@gmail.com . Backpack Project

We're making Spring Break Kits!
What:  Building kits for students' Spring Break meals.
When:  Saturday, March 4, 9 am-12 pm . We will work until we run out of food, which may be well before our official Noon stopping time.  If you are delivering food, please plan to arrive by 8:30-8:45 am so we can get it organized.

This is a great way to help those children who depend on school lunches and may not have much to eat during Spring Break. Come join us!
