Canadian First Aid Manuals
In 2016 substantive changes were made in the Canadian First Aid Manual as a result of the ILCOR decisions. These appeared for the first time in the Fourteenth Printing, revised October 2016. This and all subsequent printings of the Canadian First Aid Manual are technically current and can be used for program delivery.
DB Perks Scholarship
Through generous support from DB Perks & Associates Ltd, the Society is able to offer the annual DB Perks Leadership Scholarship Program. The Lifesaving Society awards up to four (4) leadership scholarships each year. These scholarships (valued at $250 each) are to be used by recipients to advance their leadership capacity in delivering Lifesaving Society education and training programs in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

NEW Leadership Competencies Publication
In August 2017 the Lifesaving Society launched and began to roll out the new National leadership training system. The new training system is based on 13 competencies within 5 different leadership levels that are needed to provide quality lifesaving education. The Society's Leadership Competencies publication is a leadership standard that can support more than just the leadership training programs. It is now available to order on our SHOP.
Office Closed
Please note that the office is closed on Monday, February 19 for the Family Day holiday.

2018 Casino - Volunteers Needed
The Lifesaving Society Alberta and Northwest Territories casino fundraiser is April 1 and 2, 2018 at Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton. Updated Leadership Training Event Calendar
We have recently updated our Leadership Training Event Calendar to include Trainer and Instructor Recertification Courses as well as a Trainer Mandatory Update Clinic in the NWT as well as changed the date of our annual National Trainer Course from September to June to coincide with our annual general meeting.
Safety Management
Changes to Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act
The new Occupational Health and Safety Act will come into effect June 1, 2018. Changes to the act are the result of a comprehensive review completed by the Government of Alberta to the OHS system that concluded in the fall of 2017. New additions to the Act focus on ensuring that workers can refuse unsafe work, know what hazards are present on the job, and have a right to participate in workplace health and safety discussions.
With the new OHS legislation, the responsibilities of different workplace parties to health and safety are clearly defined and all worksite parties must ensure that information regarding health and safety hazards is available onsite.
More information will also be published regularly by the Government of Alberta on OHS investigations.
A full overview of the changes can be found at https://www.alberta.ca/ohs-changes.aspx
