February 2016

 From the Director's Desk...

Communities working together is the heart of successful coalitions.  We have an opportunity this month to come together as one voice during the annual Day on the Hill on February 15th.  This day is important in that seeing youth and adults share a common message allows our legislature know that there are people who care about the direction we see the perception of risk by youth marijuana use is going.  Please consider spending a few hours with us at the Day on the Hill - see below for more information.

We have been letting you know about the ODCP (Office of Drug Control Policy) joint education project with two key brochures.  In the past week, we have filled over 1000 requests for brochures.  Requests have been coming from County Attorneys, Sheriff Offices, and School Nurses.  Who else in your community could benefit from these brochures?  (Information provided below.).

If you shop at HyVee in one of the following communities (Boone, Ft Dodge, Council Bluffs, Sioux City -Sergeant Road, Ames, and Mason City) look for the marijuana ad on the back of the tape register.  To find out more about this ad and other things happening join the Marijuana Action team led by Mary Schissel on the 2nd Monday of the month.

One last request is for your attendance at the March Retreat.  We will have our federal program officer joining us and to have a full retreat would be great.  Please remember that Camp Dodge offers low cost lodging options.

As always thanks for all you do as each piece makes the statewide effort more solid - we couldn't do what we do without all of you!
Until next time... Angie
