A Journey of Self through Meditation

I really love meditation as a tool.
My first experience of meditation in a group was the best decision I have ever made. I noticed that with every class I became more and more alive. In essence I was waking up. Meditation was bringing out the whole of myself, finally and fully, to meet the world.  I know my life has been enhanced by my mediation practice in fact, it still is!

In my early 30's I had created 2 businesses with 2 young children. I found my life was very full and I was hooked on the action side of life. It was fun, but it took its toll on my body. My shoulders were always tight and uncomfortable and it got to the point that I realized I was stressed and had to change something. I began talking with friends and discovered a local yoga teacher around the corner. This was my first discovery of the meditation form known as "Yoga nidra."

By practising the art of stillness and concentration, meditation has made me aware of how stressed and tight my body was. I discovered I had been ignoring the signs by doing too much in my life.  As time passed, my practise became part of my everyday life. It has taught me to be mindful and I have more appreciation of being alive. It has also brought me so much joy and it changed the way I moved through life. It helped me to relax in the busyness of everything I did. It has made me mindful!

To me, meditation is a higher platform of consciousness in which to learn by bringing and opening to your innate wisdom. As I practise regularly, meditation has helped me to dispel fear and I became more patient.  I feel recharged and more loving and I now enjoy spending time with my inner self and it shows in all that I do.

Photo of the Month!

Look who we had visiting Riverdell this month!

Apparently, the spiritual significance of koalas is captured in these words -  Connection, Protection, Memory, Pleasure, Magic, Calm & Trust.

What Does It Take?

After a lifetime, all...
                that I've learned
                that I now understand
                that I've been
of the amazing things that I've done, and not done
of the help and gifts that I've received, given and declined
of the love I have received, given and declined
With all of my...
                standing on the precipice
                facing the vast unknown
without knowing what the next step will bring
without being told what to do
                in awe and anticipation
                take responsibility
                let go
Embracing, each and every moment, again and again.
Whatever I do.
Tears, gratitude and joy

Deepening My Appreciation of What I've Got

I hadn't realised I could love and appreciate my horse more than I did.

After a long and hard year of work in a new job, I knew I needed a change in scenery and not being one to enjoy lying around in some tropical resort,  I chose ticking a bucket list item and set up a trip to the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre at Broadford in Victoria.   It is a 788km, 9hr drive from my home at Mt Torrens, SA or 1hr north of Melbourne on the Hume Highway.  Rikke and Alastair now run the business begun by Alastair's parents, Andrew and Manuela McLean.

I was glad to see on their brochure that "creating your own clinic" is an option as I had been unable to get into recent clinics and emailed Rikke Andreasen, partner of Alastair McLean, to see if I could go over for what I called my Perfect Riders Retreat. I stayed in the dormitory style bunkhouse and had a lesson each day with Rikke as I wanted to work on my canter position and learn all I could about how they did things.
