E-Reflections
a monthly newsletter of Lakewood UMC
Welcome to E-Reflections!
" For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

We are celebrating the "season" of the Reflections newsletter that has been mailed out for so many years, and also the "season" of the new  E-REFLECTIONS that will be emailed to you in the coming months. There will be copies available in the back of the church at the Connection Center for those desiring a hard copy.

Reflections and our web site will be a work in progress for the next few months. Thank you for your patience!

There is a cost savings involved. We will be saving our church  approximately
$4,200 a year.

The process for submitting articles will not change.   If you would like to submit an article, contact  Karen Chaudhry by the 15th of the month ([email protected])

Questions? Denise Foster, at [email protected] or 733-8477.

FAMILY PROMISE - A  Special Time in the Life of LUMC!

Lots of preparation, prayer, and contributions from our church family went into this past week with Family Promise. Lakewood hosted three families who are working their way out of homelessness. The families were grateful and kind to our volunteers. The children ranged in ages from 2 to 18.  Many thanks to Phillip Crawford, Volunteer Coordinator, and his FP Team, numbering some 70+ people. Meals were provided to the families, activities planned, and the three Sunday School rooms in the CAC were turned into small "apartments." Special thanks to the Youth Group for sharing their space as well as New Beginnings, Open Forum, and Modern Family.

Ash Wednesday is February 10

Come for dinner and then stay for our Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent.

Looking for a great book to read during Lent? Check out 40 Days of Decrease, a Different Kind of Hunger, a Different Kind of Fast, by Alicia Britt Chole. This book invites readers to "walk with Jesus through the holy decrease of less and loss that led Him cross-ward and beyond. Each day offers a meaningful consideration of Jesus' journey through reading and reflection and then issues a challenging daily fast. Instead of social media, chocolate, and designer coffee, 40 days of Decrease calls communities to a Lenten fasting of apathy, injustice, resentment, hypocrisy, and more for the love of God. Check out 40fasts.com. to order a book.

       LUMC BLOOD DRIVE NEWS

Only 6% of those who are medically able to donate blood do so. On average, one person a week from our congregation needs a transfusion. And, other than donations from another person, there is no other source. Please step up and donate next time to help save a life. Please join me in thanking the following ten members of our congregation who donated at our latest church-wide blood drive on Sunday, January 10: David Boyd, Denny Britt, Marke Cagle, Terry Collins, Jerwanne "Jay" Hester, Quell Luce, Dianne Sox, Jack Sox, Tanya Turpin, and Tim Turpin.
