A Message from
While the winter blues can start to catch up with us this time of year, February is gearing up to be a month full of of planning here at Habitat as we beginning to 'think spring!' The staff and volunteers are getting a little antsy as we eagerly anticipate the projects that will await us in the spring, summer, and fall.
For now though, we enjoy winter, for what fun is it to only dream about future seasons and not cherish the moments we are experiencing now. Winter means we get to reflect upon all the goodness of last year and look forward to the excitement of a new year in the midst of planning.

Homeowner Application Deadline Extended through March!
Applications for homeownership have been open since the beginning of January, and we have extended the deadline for submission through March 31st. Applications are being accepted for the New Richmond and possibly Hammond areas. We plan to build 2 or 3 homes, breaking ground this spring.

Help Provide Shelter... A SpartanNash Foundation Fundraiser
x Valley Habitat for Humanity is proud to partner with the SpartanNash Foundation during its retail scan campaign to provide shelter in the local community. Between
, store guests who visit any of the three Family Fresh Markets and one Econofoods in Pierce and St. Croix counties will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane, with 100 percent of dollars raised going to St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity.

in Hudson, New Richmond, and River Falls; and
SpartanNash - which owns the
Family Fresh Markets and Econofoods supporting the local Habitat affiliate - underwrites the cost of the fundraising campaign so that all donations will have a significant impact in the local community where it was raised. SpartanNash also provides financial support, and many company associates volunteer at Habitat affiliates throughout the year.

2017 National Women Build Week
We are excited to announce that St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity has been selected as one of 300 affiliates to participate in
National Women Build Week! Held the week leading up to Mother's Day in May,
NWBW is in its 10th year of "spotlighting the homeownership challenges faced by women and subsequently their children and challenging women to devote their time to help build affordable housing in their local communities."
SCVH participated in
NWBW, sponsored by Lowe's, in 2015 with a two-day event at the Eco Village. We look forward to this year's Women Build which will take place between May 6th through May 14th. Stay tuned for future announcements related to the Women Build. We will be in need of volunteers to help us make this a fantastic event. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways from planning to fundraising to building.

Meet our New Board Member,
Mark Petersen is President of Sawbill Companies, Inc. and Principal of Petersen, PLC. Since 2009, Sawbill Companies and its affiliates have acquired and rehabbed over 200 homes throughout Minnesota. Petersen, PLC provides real estate legal counsel for a small group of long-term clients.
Mark has particular expertise in Minnesota foreclosure laws and procedures.
Mark coordinates medical and dental service trips to Bois Tombe, Haiti through Friends of Haiti, New York. He and his wife, Karen have two teen-aged daughters and live in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
Mark's professional and personal experiences connect well to the mission and vision of Habitat, and to that we say, 'welcome aboard, Mark! We look forward to having you on our team!'

|In addition to the 2 or 3 homes we are plan to build this year, SCVH is continuing our A Brush With Kindness program. We are able to help current homeowners with exterior projects in that allow families to remain in their homes and continue to live with the peace of knowing they have a place to call home. We look forward to another year filled with ABWK projects.
