KHC Annual Meeting
KHC Annual Meeting was held January 28th at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka

What a great way to usher in the new year with so many Kansas Horse Council members celebrating our past and our future!

Since 2007 Pattie Stalder has served as Executive Director of the council and her service was recognized with a copper plaque and a custom designed quilt.

Featured speaker, Dexter Hedrick of the Hutchinson Correctional Facility shared his experiences working with inmates and Mustangs. Twelve of the Mustangs that have gone through his program participated in the recent inaugural parade. Two are part of the Ft. Riley Commanding Generals Mounted Color Guard and ten belong to the U.S. Border Patrol.

KHC Foundation Silent Auction
Silent Auction Items Needed!

We are looking forward to our 20th Equifest of Kansas and hope that you plan to attend!  As you may know, the Kansas Horse Council Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization is guided by the Kansas Horse Council.  The Foundation has one goal, and that is to raise money for scholarships to be awarded to deserving members pursuing higher education.  Donations to the KHCF are greatly appreciated and will assist in the goal of supporting higher education for Kansans.  Donations are tax deductible.

How can you help?
The Foundation has one fundraiser each year, a silent auction, that is held at Equifest of Kansas.  We welcome cash donations, and items to be offered in the silent auction.  This year, we are also accepting good condition, used tack for the auction.  We know that many of us have items that are no longer being used but may be of great benefit to someone else.   So, this is a win-win deal...you get to get rid of things you don't need, receive a tax credit and the KHCF has the opportunity to sell your donations to help fund scholarships.

If you would like to make a monetary contribution, checks may be made payable to the:
Kansas Horse Council Foundation
8831 Quail Lane, Suite 201
Manhattan, Kansas 66502

If you would like to donate an item for the auction including used tack, please contact either

Legislative Update
Racing legislation re-introduced in Kansas legislature

H.B. 2173 was introduced to the Kansas legislature during the last week of January.  The Kansas Horse Council is in favor of the bill which would support the Kansas racing industry.  A provision in the bill would provide support to the Kansas horse industry through the Kansas Horse Council and allow certain funds to be distributed to further the goals of the council.

H.B. 2173 would e nable slot machines to be located at pari-mutual racing facilities in Kansas.
The Kansas Horse Council would benefit from proceeds distributed by the Kansas Gaming Commission.

Watch your newsletter and email for requests for grassroots support.
