Couple on Treadmill - Illustration One of the top reasons most of us give for not making the changes we want to in our life is a lack of time. Yet how much time do we give to simply managing our 'stuff'? As a society we have become steadily more abundant in possessions but, ironically, we may have less time than those who came before us.

Our relationships suffer most when we don't make time for them, whether that's spent sharing experiences, listening to each other with real attention or making space for self-connection through meditation, exercise or a creative activity. One of the most common comments from those who have done the Hoffman Process is what a luxury it feels to give yourself eight days to fully focus on your life without the distractions of phones and daily commitments.

This issue we've interviewed Hoffman graduate, author and trend forecaster James Wallmann who's just brought out his first book 'Stuffocation'. He is seeing a trend away from accumulating more stuff and towards a more minimalist style of living which prioritises experience over possessions.  Read more below.

If you'd like to give yourself some time and attention you can find out more about the Process by joining our Introduction Day on Saturday February 8th or our Phone-In on Tuesday February 18th. You'll be able to speak to people who have done the course as well as Hoffman teachers who will be glad to answer your questions. You can also book on our spring Relationship Workshops for individuals and couples.

If you're a graduate please join our support call on February 12th on Finding Love.

Wishing you a spring in your step

Stepping Off the Treadmill - Stuffocation

Stuffocation CoverAfter Strategy Director Thiru Wallman did the Hoffman Process in 2009 she came back much more confident about starting a family with her husband James, a journalist and trend forecaster. James did the Process two months later and in 2013, when their little girl was two, the couple decided to 'go for the dream rather than the treadmill'.

As a result of their mutual vision they're now expecting their second child and James's first book Stuffocation has been published to critical acclaim. Laura Atkinson at the Sunday Times described it as 'The Tipping Point meets Freakonomics. Fascinating, inspiring, and great fun to read'.

Thiru: 'Since doing the Process James and I regularly review our family vision. At the start of 2013 we set a goal for James to go freelance and publish his first book whilst we tried for our second child. It wasn't an easy decision for James to give up his job but once we'd imagined a future that really lit us up we knew we needed to act on it; that was an insight I'd taken away from the Process.'

James: 'Thiru came back from the Process so empowered and clear. I could see how she'd grown and I wanted to be in a position to move with her, so I decided to go too. I'm so glad I did. It was a fantastic experience and since then we've both gone for our dreams. Writing my first book was like climbing a mountain and the view from the top is magnificent. It's brought me such confidence and Thiru has supported me all the way.

The premise of Stuffocation is that doing stuff makes us happier than having stuff; a link which has now been proven. That's not to say that possessions don't make us happy, they can certainly be fun, they just aren't the best place to invest your time and money for long-term happiness. As a professional trend forecaster I've been aware that the answer to the question: 'How should I live?' has fundamentally changed...'

Are you missing the Hoffman connection?

The Q2 allows you to build upon your Process work, providing an opportunity to explore some of the areas that you wish to investigate further. It enables you to focus on a particular relationship or challenge as well as deepening your Process experience. Unlike the Process, where you have so much to deal with, the Q2 gives you the gift of focusing on the present and how patterns are affecting you now.

Remember that you can do the Q2 with partners, friends, siblings or Process buddies and the preparatory work can be done in your lunch break! There are a few places left, so book soon if you'd like to join us.                                                                                               More info & book online
