February/March 2014 Issue Hits the Streets/Internet

ASN's Feb-March 2014 issue has hit the street - Vol. 23 No. 1 - that's right, we're entering our 23rd year of beer publishing. That's a lot of suds under the bridge. In this issue, read about Brazil's emerging craft beer culture; new craft breweries under construction; nanobreweries; coffee beers; the World Beer Cup; and of course all your favorite columns and regional news. If you can't get your hands on a real copy, you can find the digital edition at www.alestreetnews.com.
ASN Returning to Great American Beer Fest
After a year hiatus, Ale Street News is returning to Denver for the mother of all beer fests, the Great American Beer Festival. This festival has grown to epic proportions and tickets sell out in a flash, but if you travel with ASN, you'll be front and central for all the action. The tour goes Thurs-Sun, Oct 2-5 and includes round trip flight Newark-Denver, three nights lodging in Downtown Denver; lunch and beertasting on arrival; one day of VIP brewery touring; and tickets to the Members Only session of the GABF. Pricing is being worked on by our faithful tour operator Greg Dennis of Short Hills Tours. Details available soon at www.alestreetnews.com.
Deposits now being accepted - e-mail tony@alestreetnews.com for details.
A Couple Spots left on ASN's Belgian Beer Paradise Tour 2014
ASN's Belgium tour April 23-30 was sold out but we had a couple of cancellations. So we have room for either a couple or a single if anyone has a burning desire to visit Beer Paradise. Deadline Feb. 21. We'll be visiting The Zythos Beer Festival, and the Night of Great Thirst lambic event; we'll be staying in Brussels, Antwerp and Amsterdam; and of course we'll be visiting many Trappist and artisanal breweries. Full tour details are at www.alestreetnews.com. Or e-mail tony@alestreetnews.com (551-587-7933).

Late Breaking News -

Another One Bites the Dust?

Long Island's Blue Point Brewing Co. agreed to a sale to A-B Inbev Feb. 5 for $24 million. We at ASN have long known Blue Point's founders Mark Burford and Pete Cotter and have considered them to be among craft beer's most independent-minded. Thus it is with some surprise that we digest the news that Blue Point has broken ranks with the craft brewing industry and been absorbed by the world's largest brewing corporation. Blue Point produced 60,000+ barrels in 2013 and was listed as the 36th largest US craft brewery in 2012, a mere drop in the bucket compared to A-B or Inbev's production.
Crafty CartonTM Rebounding
ASN's friends at LeisurePak are finally ready to re-launch the Crafty CartonTM..The biodegradable take-home beer carton has been completely retooled by Keystone Paper & Box Co. of Connecticut; brewers and retailers are now eagerly awaiting shipments of the new, custom-designed Crafty Carton growler alternatives. Check out the Crafty Carton video at youtube.com/user/craftycarton or visit www.craftycarton.com
New Trade Show Offers Post Production, Marketing Insights
Most people in the craft beer business make it a point to attend the annual Craft Brewers Conference. Now there's a new show focusing on post-production in the craft world. "Bringing Artisan Beer, Wine and Spirits to Market," The Craft Beverage Expo debuts in San Jose, CA May 6-8. The show organizers have tapped into some local talent for its Opening General Session - "Craft as Community - A Brooklyn Case Study" featuring Steve Hindy of Brooklyn Brewery, Shane Welch of Sixpoint Brewing, Tom Potter of New York Distilling Co., and Alie Shaper of Brooklyn Oneology. Expo details at www.CraftBeverageExpo.com.
