Ceder the dog from the local SPCA visits BES

Grade 4's making Valentines for their GranPals
Updates from our coaches at Banff Elementary School:
There are always so many wonderful things happening at Banff Elementary School here are a few of the highlights: Grade six girls group donated $100.00 to Bow Valley SPCA and 105.00 to the Bow Valley women's Emergency Shelter from their nail polish fundraiser! Way to go girls!
New lunch time groups/clubs have started RFTS is supporting the Green Team, Div II lunch time Board Games. Groups that are still continuing is the grade 3/4 soul warmers club along with the grade 6 spirit council and the grade six girls group.
At BES in January students created thank you cards for something special that occurred over the Christmas season. They identified anger triggers and remembered a time when they were able to pause and divert their anger before acting on it. They learned about positive and negative thoughts (green and red thoughts) and a growth/learning mindset which sees "mistakes" as learning gifts! And we all took a few Jelly Belly breaths.
In February your child(ren) will be bringing home some universal mental health activities they have participated in to teach you what they know about Mental Health. We also look forward to hearing how you take care of your own mental health.
Updates from our coaches at
Elizabeth Rummel School
and grade 4 Lawrence Grassi:

Mid-term surveys were completed for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 at LGMS and ERS.  The surveys enabled students voice to be heard around overall school enjoyment as well as their sense of emotional safety.  The surveys also allowed the Canmore RFTS team and the administration and school staff to see what the students were thinking and feeling as well as where to put their future focus.  Some results were shared with the board of trustees and soon to be shared with students themselves.  Students in all grades have subsequently participated in activities relating to small, medium, and large problems.  Students were made aware of how to solve small and medium sized problems and who their "supporters" are in their everyday lives, particularly in times of need.  Students "supporters" ranged from the unconditional love they get from their pets, to their respective supportive families and communities (ie moms and dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends' parents, parents' friends. The grade 4's at LGMS have been crafting Valentines cards for their GranPals or one of the supporters in their lives. It's been a joy filled January with preposterous amounts of participation!
