February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

ONE IN THREE Adolescents in the US is a Victim of Dating Violence

February is nationally recognized as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Teen Dating Violence is defined as the physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional violence within a dating relationship, including stalking. It can occur in person or electronically and might occur between a current or former dating partner. Operation Care recognizes that while this violence is often overlooked, these early relationships can be very influential for youth. So often, our earliest relationships become the foundation by which we begin to understand relationships. A toxic relationship early on can normalize violence often continuing the cycle of violence.

According to loveisrespect.org, one in three adolescents in the United States is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner. Currently about 70 percent of eighth and ninth graders consider themselves "dating". In light of this, addressing Teen Dating Violence proactively becomes an essential aspect of helping the youth in our community break the cycle of violence.

Don't Rush to Flush Amador County Consumer Survey

Keeping unused medicine and drugs out of the hands of children is a primary concern for the Child Abuse Prevention Council. We are partnering with the California Product Stewardship Council and many other local agencies to find solutions to this problem in Amador County.

How to safely dispose of out-dated or unused medicine and drugs is the question we are addressing. In many communities disposal bins at pharmacies or secure locations have been one approach to solving this problem.

Please take a few minutes and complete the following survey. Your feedback will lead us in the right direction towards keeping our children safe.
