Celebrate Healthy Smiles!
February is National Children's Dental Health Month
Champion for Smiles: Dr. David Stone
First 5 Amador and the Amador Oral Health Task Force would like to recognize Dr. Stone for his commitment in improving the smiles of Amador's youngest. Dr. Stone has been a champion for children for more than 20 years. He was instrumental in introducing fluoride varnish and oral screenings to children during well-child checkups at the Sutter Amador Pediatric Center. Not only has Dr. Stone helped to create a system that provides this valuable service to Amador's children, he has shared his knowledge and passion throughout the region with dozens of pediatricians and health professionals.

Creating Trauma Informed Early Learning Environments

Lori Chelius and Regan Overholt
will discuss a caregiver's role in a trauma-informed strategy. They will address the harmful effects of exclusionary discipline practices on racial, ethnic, and gender disparities, and other children with high ACE scores. They will offer strategies on how to create a resilience building/trauma-informed early learning environment.
Intended Audience: childcare providers, preschools, early learning centers, family resource centers, child service providers, anyone who works with families and children.

The Summer Kindergarten Bridge Program is designed for children who will be starting kindergarten in the Fall. First 5 Amador is seeking teachers, and teacher's aides, to serve children at each of these sites.
Dates and times are: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 - 11:30 am, from June 11 through June 28. These positions are ideal for current kindergarten, transitional-kindergarten, or preschool teachers, aides, or stud
ents in the Early Childhood Education field. Education and/or experience required.
If interested, please contact First 5 Amador at 257-1092, for an application. All applications are due no later than 2:00 pm on FRIDAY, MARCH 16.

Recently two local Junior Girl Scouts fixed
up
and repainted our Little
Free Library
that sits out in front of First 5. They have taken on the Little Free Libraries as part of earning their badge in Community Service. Aside from painting and fixing up some of the libraries they will also be visiting them throughout the county to make sure they are stocked full of books.
Have you heard about Little Free Libraries? Do you know what they are?
Little Free Libraries
offer a way to share good things to read: books that intrigue, books that teach, books that are fun!
Whose libraries are these?
They belong to everybody: neighbors, friends, people we don't even know yet. Anyone can use them. That's why we want to take care of them.
Share a book:
after you read a book, bring it to any Little Free Library, and bring other books from home that you would like to share.
Take a book:
if you see a book you would like to read, take it, and then bring it back for someone else to read.
There are now over 20 little free libraries throughout the County, see the map below for one near you, and you can click on the link below to print out a map for yourself.

Healthy QUICK TIPS of the MONTH
For National Children's Dental Health Month we want to make sure everyone knows about Potter the Otter!!
Potter knows that making the right choices can help you grow up to be healthy inside and out. He teaches kids that it's important to drink water, eat fruits and vegetables, and get exercise so they can be their best. Follow along as Potter demonstrates fun ways to be healthy every day!

Potter's Peachy Peanut Butter Pita Pockets
Ingredients:
2 medium whole what pita pockets
1/4 cup reduced fat chunky peanut butter
1/2 apple cored and thinly sliced
1/2 banana thinly sliced
1/2 fresh peach thinly sliced
Preparation:
1. Cut pitas in half to make 4 pockets. Warm in microwave for about 10 seconds to make them softer.
2. Carefully open each pocket and spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the inside.
3. Fill with a combination of sliced apples, bananas, and peaches. Serve at room temperature.
Make 4 servings, 1/2 pita pocket per serving.
