This year's One Book Chelmsford selection is The Nightingale, by NYT best-selling author Kristin Hannah.  Copies are now available.  Kristin Hannah will be joining us, along with award-winning journalist and crime-fiction author Hank Phillippi Ryan, on Friday, February 9 at 7:00 pm at the CHS Performing Arts Center.

The Cultural Council will be holding a reception for their annual Photography exhibit. Winners of the Photography Contest will be announced. Light refreshments will be served. Live music provided by the Doublenecks guitar duo.  

Thursday, February 8 at 10:00 am 
Computers are ubiquitous in today's world, and most people seem content to use them without thinking too hard about how these machines work. In this talk, we'll delve into the basic components of the computer and how they work. If you struggle with computer vocabulary, this will be an excellent starting point.
 


The Library will be closed on Presidents Day, Monday, February 19, 2018.

Teen Highlights
Vacation Week: February 19-23

Tues, Feb 20
Do you think you can compete with the best? Register for the Super Smash Bros. Tournament and see if you can come out on top.  Bring your own controller; otherwise use the wiimote provided (nunchuck optional).
We will be making cake sculptures with an instructor from Pop Up Art School! Inspired by artist Wayne Thiebaud's luscious images of desserts, you will make a three-dimensional slice of cake using everyday materials: cardboard, masking tape, and paint. 
Thurs, Feb 22
This month, we'll be making edible slime with candy or marshmallows! Drop-in while supplies last for grades 4-8 and home school teens.
Fri, Feb 23: 
Learn to make hot chocolate from scratch, and then customize it with toppings from our toppings bar! Register to guarantee your spot, walk-ins welcome if space is available. (Grades 4-12)

In this workshop, we'll learn about the art of picture book artist Brian Wildsmith.  Then you'll make a three-dimensional bird in the artist's style. 

Construction Zone: Special Vacation Edition! (drop-in for ages 3+)
Thursday, February 22 at 10:30 am 
Come play with our large collection of Legos and other construction toys.  We'll have some special challenges for you to try if you wish, or just build whatever you imagine! 

Friday, February 23 at 10:30 am
Teaching artist Jay Mankita  will help us to construct delightfully complicated contraptions that accomplish simple tasks. Jay supplies dominos, popsicle sticks, rubber bands, string, ping pong balls, pulleys, buckets, and more.

Music with Sarah (drop-in for ages 2+)
Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 am
Join us as we sing, dance, and play instruments with musician Sarah Gardner.  Sarah's playful, participatory style will engage and delight all!

Join the Friends to become more involved in your public library and to make new friends! The Friends meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Conference Room at the library.

Drop-offs for the Friends of the Library book sale take place at the Gym at the rear of the Town Offices Building.
The drop-off box in the loading area on the north side of the library is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but can only accommodate smaller donations and is not water proof. Please make arrangements with the Friends for larger donations and avoid using the box during inclement weather. 

Special Spring Book Sale
Friday, April 20, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
Saturday, April 21, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
The sale will feature Fiction, Children's Books, and Teen Books  (sorry, no non-fiction this time - see us in September for those!).  The sale will take place at the  Town offices Gym, 50 Billerica Road, Chelmsford .
