Interns are on the town!
165 juniors from Healdsburg High School are out in the workforce for their High School Academic Internship Program. The internship program at Healdsburg High School is a progressive program that allows the students to apply their school knowledge to real world applications. It also gives students a chance to learn skills that may not be covered in their school curriculum. Many students are placed with businesses that pertain to possible interests for a future career. For some students the internship program is a launch pad for their already chosen professional direction.
The Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau welcomes Harrison Williams. Harrison wants to be a television actor. At the Chamber of Commerce, Harrison is learning the valuable lesson of professional networking which can be applied to many fields. Harrison is also learning the soft skills associated with an office environment. While Harrison has enjoyed his time with the Chamber of Commerce, he now knows an office job may not be for him.
We have enjoyed having Harrison as our intern here at the Chamber of Commerce. We wish him luck in his futures ventures and know that what ever he does he will excel.

Brown Bag Workshops
Thank you Jenny and Jon!
Thank you to Jenny Helman and Jon Haupt for leading the January Brown Bag Workshops. Jenny, owner of Healdsburg Nutrition, taught the importance of having a healthy work space and how easy and affordable it can be to start a wellness plan at work. We also received a sweet and healthy snack! Jon, Manager of Healdsburg Regional Library and Sonoma County Wine Library, unlocked the seemingly infinite amount of online business resources available through the Sonoma County Library's website. All you need is a library card to get started and they are free!

Bringing Meditation to the Workplace - What Can You Gain?
Wednesday, March 16th
12:00-1:00 pm
The regular practice of meditation can facilitate mind-body wellness in measurable ways. Studies have documented the following improvements including: elevated moods, increased immune response, an increase in both creativity and cognitive function, the ability to cope with stressful situations with greater ease, a reduced respiratory rate which has positive effects on the heart and blood pressure.
The greatest benefit is that the regular practice of meditation can actually improve the brain. After just a few months, meditation increases the cortical thickness of the hippocampus, which governs learning and memory. Basically, it helps to keep your brain young. Other benefits include increased attention, an increase in the ability to cope with stress, and an overall improved sense of well-being and happiness.
What your will learn:
* Understanding the practice of meditation
* A brief historic overview - and why it's become popular in mainstream business environments
* Learn about top corporations that embrace meditation
* An overview of the effectiveness of the DASA method
* Learn many proven health benefits
* Discover how meditation can enhance your business skills
About our speaker: Lorraine Alexander
As executive director of DASA Meditation, Lorraine leads the annual DASA Teachers' Certification Trainings, lectures, and teaches meditation. Dedicated to the expansion of DASA, she coordinates local business programs, and plans to launch a local outreach program that will teach veterans with PTSD to cope through meditation. Lorraine formerly led the U.S. Green Building Council's Redwood Empire Chapter, and the Pacific Region Council as chair. She has been a meditator since the age of 15.

The final Community Forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 28 from 6pm - 8pm at the Community Center, 1557 Healdsburg Ave. This forum will be a drop-in Open House followed by a concluding presentation of the Draft Housing Action Plan - vision, final objectives, measurable outcomes and key recommendations.
