The Santa Cruz Bolivia Dental team led by Dr. Diane Ede-Nichols provided free dental care to 382 patients, both children and adults, at a dollar value of $123,969.00.

Our International Inbound Program
Benyam Gebregziabher
Then and Now
When Benyam was a young child in Ethiopia, he was very sick with a serious heart condition.
Dr. Zewdu Abegaz, founder of the Ethiopian Children's Heart Fund, and Dr. Rick Hodes were monitoring Benyams condition. When Benyam was six years old, he was referred to Healing The Children Northeast. We were able to bring him to the United States for surgery and Benyam is now living a healthy and happy life in Ethiopia.
We are so pleased that we were able to keep in contact with Benyam for the past 24 years!
Here is what Benyam remembers about his experience:
"I came to HTC in 1992 when I was 6 years old. It was all a new experience for me; getting on the plane, the atmosphere, the hospitality, everything. I can't forget seeing the New York sky, the city was covered by beautiful lights. At the airport my foster family (Shirley Storti and her husband Larry) were waiting us. They were very kind and generous people. I stayed with them for almost a month, and they treated me as their own kid.
I had heart valve surgery. I thank the HTCNE doctors and staff members who put my life back on track. I am very healthy now, no more health problems, and no more pain since that time. I am very lucky to play my favorite sport, football. At this time I am working in our family's hotel as the manager. I love my work and I love my life because HTCNE gave it to me back, no more misery again.
Once again thanks for HTCNE, and thanks for the generous people who work there. And I thank my beloved Foster family (both of them are passed away, May God Bless their souls."
Our International Inbound Program brings children from developing countries to the United States where we match the needs of the child with a volunteer doctor and/or hospital with that specialty. We arrange for travel to the U.S., as well as visas for the child and parent. A volunteer host family is found who will open their home for the child and parent while the child is receiving medical treatment in the U.S.
