Volunteer! What Do You Like To Do?

Thank You Business Donors!

We'd like to thank all the businesses who recently gave us so many fabulous donations. Donations are the lifeblood of our organization, and this year we've especially benefited from a tremendous number of goods from our business partners. We received pallets and pallets of beautiful new product including laminate flooring, doorknobs, miscellaneous hardware, office furniture and fixtures, plumbing supplies, linoleum and roofing - just to name a few. As your donations fly off our shelves, we're able to fund more affordable homes for local low-income families. We humbly thank you for your generosity and support.

Meet Volunteer Gordon Eastman

Gordon Eastman

One of our long-time volunteers came to us as a master craftsman in finish work and with 40 years experience in retail. Gordon Eastman has been a fixture in the Beaverton ReStore for about 3 years. Because Gordon possesses such unique skills, the ReStore has been able to work with him on some exclusive projects.

Among Gordon's creations that you will see at the Beaverton ReStore include some great shelves he custom-made using materials from our warehouse, and a beautiful red tile table that gives an eye-catching focal point to our information booth. Gordon has also participated in the design and construction of some incredible booth displays the Outreach team has used at large-scale fairs and expos. On top of all that, the man can sure play a beautiful tune on the piano! There's nothing like live music to entertain customers as they shop.

Gordon says one of the best things about volunteering at the ReStore is that there is always work to be done and always an opportunity for him to utilize his skills to the fullest. He appreciates that the ReStore is a place where he can present his ideas and work as part of a creative team.

When asked what he would say to folks who are considering volunteering at the ReStore, his response was "Quite simply, it's the most fun place to do something positive for the community."

Thanks, Cindy!

Every organization has the quiet ones, the ones the public never sees, the ones that do so much but always remain in the background. Today we bid farewell to one of ours. Cindy Correll has been with the ReStore for about 6 years. Always quietly building and planning and strategizing away. Who and what we are now as an organization is due as much to her amazing work as anyone else's in our organization.

Stan, Mark, Cindy, Shel Mae, Janell & Joe

I remember the first time we met. Cindy was cashiering at our old Water Street location and it was pretty cold, the wind was blowing right through the place, and she was rubbing her fingerless-gloved hands together and laughing. Right off we started talking and within a few minutes I realized that there was way more she could do with us. Cindy was then my first office volunteer and away we ran.

During her six years, Cindy helped organize our first office outside the store, wrote our early grants, and was instrumental in writing the business plan that led to the three-store operation we have now. She also became a Vista volunteer to help us create our first marketing strategic plan and then moved to staff as our first Marketing Manager. I have always relied on her for her professionalism, her insistence on doing things the right way, and her love for Habitat and reuse.

Cindy has taught me, and many of us, so much more than I can cover here. But mostly she taught me early on that we can be a great organization, and I believe we all owe her a lot for that.

Thank you, Cindy, for your time with us. I hope that your next adventures are just as wonderful.
