"Even though February was the shortest month of the year, sometimes it seemed like the longest." - J.D. Robb

During the winter months, ice, snow, and cold can make life challenging for everyone.  Slippery sidewalks can cause a wide range of injuries - especially for seniors. Walk like a penguin to avoid slipping on ice:
  • Bend slightly and walk flat footed
  • Point your feet out slightly like a penguin
  • Keep your center of gravity over your feet as much as possible
  • Watch where you are stepping
  • Take shorter, shuffle-like steps.
  • Keep your arms at your sides (not in your pockets!)
  • Concentrate on keeping your balance
  • Make sure to wear shoes with good traction
  • Go S-L-O-W-L-Y!

February National Heart Health Month

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. However, it is also one of the most preventable.  Making heart-healthy choices, knowing your family health history and the risk factors for heart disease, having regular check-ups and working with your physician to manage your health are all integral aspects of saving lives from this often silent killer. FEBRUARY IS HEART HEALTH MONTH. Here are a few tips to keep your heart healthy.

A Day On, Not a Day Off

Volunteers Needed

Meals on Wheels:
As always we are in need of drivers all across the Cape and the Islands. Please spread the word with your family, friends, club members, church group, etc. For more information, please call Nancy Wolf, 508-394-4630, ext. 430 or email: nancy.wolf@escci.org

Money Management:
Money Managers assist income-eligible adults, sixty and over, who may be at risk of losing their independence due to their failure to pay rent, utility or other basic bills on time. Trained volunteers meet with consumers in their homes to help them balance their checkbooks, pay bills and manage their money wisely. If you or anyone you know are interested please contact Marsha Whittaker, 508-394-4630, ext. 510 or email marsha.whittaker@escci.org
