CEO Message to the Community
Friend!

Good morning and I hope you had a nice July 4 th  holiday. I’ve been out of the office this week on vacation so in my absence, I thought I would share a past message about the importance and relevance of Federation…

WHY FEDERATION?

The Jewish Federation of Delaware supports a community-wide network of organizations that do two things:

  Care   for people  in need here at home, in Israel and around the world and;

Nurture   and   sustain  the Jewish community today and for future generations.
Through our community-wide network of partners and agencies, we actively seek out and address the most pressing issues facing our community every day in order to feed, clothe, comfort and rescue people in need. We also inspire, educate and connect people to their Jewish identity.

For more than 80 years, the Jewish Federation of Delaware has been raising funds to meet the ongoing needs of our Jewish community.  Federation continues to be the single largest annual fundraising arm for our Jewish community with thousands of people providing support to a community-wide network of organizations that care for people in need and nurture and sustain the Jewish community today and for future generations.

Federation truly supports the fabric of Jewish life in our community.  By working with community leadership, we ensure that the programs, institutions, and values that enrich our Jewish community remain vibrant and strong. From feeding the hungry to helping the unemployed...from supporting families with needs to funding Jewish education and Israel experiences…the Jewish Federation is focused on addressing the most pressing issues facing our community every day.

Federation provides an effective and meaningful way for you to give Jewishly.  With one gift, we address causes and issues of importance to our community. If you or someone you know receives financial or scholarship assistance, enjoys PJ Library books, or has been a participant on Birthright Israel, then you know how important the Jewish Federation is to our community. And this is just a small sampling of services we help fund.

During times of crisis and natural disasters, Federation responds.  The Jewish Federation system has a long track record of carrying out big bold initiatives and mobilizing great resources during times of crisis. We helped airlift thousands of Ethiopian Jews to safety in Israel, rescued and resettled more than one million Soviet Jews, and we provided lifesaving humanitarian relief in the Ukraine as well as during the natural disasters in Houston, New Jersey, New Orleans, Haiti, Japan, the Philippines and New Jersey.

The extraordinary impact of the Jewish Federation can be felt around the community and around the world.  In Delaware and the Brandywine Valley, we provide opportunities for Jewish culture to flourish and are working toward reaching our broad, diverse, and growing community.

In Israel , Federation provides funds for training and educational programs to break the cycle of poverty, enrichment programs for children at risk and provides support for new immigrants to integrate successfully into Israeli society.

And Federation is active in more than 70 countries around the world.  Through our broad network of partners and agencies, we actively seek out and support innovative solutions in order to provide basic necessities in life, rescue people in need, and educate, inspire, and connect people to their Jewish identity.

Federation’s success is dependent on building and strengthening a vibrant and caring community that is committed to improving the world.

Thanks to your continued support , We Grow Stronger   TOGETHER.

Shabbat Shalom,
Seth J. Katzen
Chief Executive Officer

REMINDER: Garden of Eden Road will be closed for about 60 days, starting Thursday (June 28th)
DelDOT has announced that Garden of Eden Road will be closed for approximately 60 days for the construction of Columbia Place.
DelDOT has stated that the closure of Garden of Eden Road between Taunton Road and U.S. 202 is scheduled to go into effect at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28th and continue until Friday, August 24th, pending weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

During the roadway construction, Reybold Construction Group, LLC will be relocating utilities, improving the roadway, and constructing a commercial entrance/exit. This construction is associated with the Columbia Place development.
DelDOT says the entrance to the Jewish Community Center (JCC) on Garden of Eden Road will remain open and accessible via U.S. 202.

According to the Reybold Group, the closure was intended to start the week of June 22nd. However, in order to accommodate the JCC for an event they have planned, Reybold says the start of the closure has been delayed until June 28th.

Jerome Heisler with the Reybold Group also states: "The closure of Garden of Eden Road is due to the fact that it will be a construction site. There will be no access onto or around or through this area for safety reasons. That includes each day of the week, day and night, and the weekends. I care to be safe and therefore, we will not permit people to pass through or around the site."

For any questions about the closure or detour information, please contact the Reybold Group at 302-388-6712.
