CEO message
to the community
Friend!

Good morning. This past Sunday morning I attended University of Delaware Hillel's Board Retreat at the Kristol Center. It was nice seeing familiar faces as well as meeting some new faces including student leadership. We are most appreciative of the continued success and growth of UD Hillel in inspiring Jewish life on campus as well as forging a firm foundation for building tomorrow's leaders today. Yasher koach to UD Hillel President, Sheryl Kline and Executive Director, Donna Schwartz.

This past Sunday our PJ Library held its annual Apples & Honey & Hayride program at Linvilla Orchards. The sold out program included hay rides and other interactive family engagement activities. It proved to be a great way of celebrating the New Year TOGETHER!

On Monday evening, Federation's Jewish Community Relations Committee and the Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah, co-sponsored the Canidates Forum in the Siegel JCC auditorium. It was the first public debate since the Delaware primary election. Special thanks to Michael Sigman for moderating, JCRC Co-Chairs, John Elzufon and Jenn Steinberg, Hadassah's Laura Michelle Kaplan, as well as JCRC Director, Rabbi Ellen Bernhardt, for their efforts in coordinating this bi-annual event.

We went to press with the October issue of j-VOICE Monthly on Tuesday, our Simchas & Celebrations issue. Our award-winning publication has become our primary communication vehicle in conjunction with our j-VOICE Weekly email update.

I hope you had an easy and meaningful fast on Yom Kippur. The tekiyah gedola h calls us to look forward with hope for the promise of what the New Year holds. Perhaps, contained in that long blast is the power of possibility. May each of us reflect on how we continue to be our best selves this year and the power of working together to build community.

Please be reminded that Federation will be closed on Monday, September 24th and Tuesday, September 25th in observance of Sukkot.

We Grow Stronger TOGETHER.

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach ,
Seth J. Katzen
Chief Executive Officer
For our fellow Jews in North and South Carolina the High Holidays this year are a time of great stress and turmoil due to Hurricane Florence. The scale of flooding is extensive across both states. Many people are still evacuated from the coastal communities and there is extensive risk of additional flooding even though the storm has largely passed.

It will be days before we know how many Jewish families and individuals have lost their homes.

The Jewish Federations of North America have opened a 2018 Hurricane Relief Fund to provide assistance to those directly affected by the storm.

After the holiday please go to  jewishfederations.org  to lend your support.

At this solemn and holy hour, let us reach out to those in need to help.
