Female Power Models  in Indian and Greek Mythology

Indian Americans and Greek Americans will collaborate  to explore models of power for females during the October 8 Inherit Chicago/Chicago Cultural Alliance  event at the
Irish American Heritage Center,  4626 North Knox Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603, with ample free parking and convenient access from expressways. 
 
 
Facets of female power venerated by generations of devotees in India and the Indian diaspora will be vividly portrayed by members of the Mandala Ensemble from www.mandalaarts.org . They will enact stories about 
Bhu Devi, Durga/Shakti, and Saraswati overcoming evil with female power and invoking  blessings of  knowledge and wisdom.  Audience engagement and performance by actors in "It ' s Greek to Me " presented by  Joan Caton ' s company highlight triumphs of Athena, Hera, Aphrodite, and Medea, heroines of Greek mythology.  Discussion moderated by UIC Professor Lori Barcliff Baptista will invite attendees to  examine commonalities in the mosaic of Chicago ' s ethnic heritage and how models of female power represent aspects of strength which women today may strive to emulate.  Join the crowd for a provocative, empowering Sunday afternoon.
