JULY 2018

Happy Independence Day!  We wish you a safe and happy celebration of the founding of our country.  We will be closed on July 4th but hope to see you another time during the month.

Knit knockers every first and third Tuesday, this month July 3rd and 17th.  Any Tuesday afternoon you will probably find other knocker knitters sitting around our big table.  If you need help getting started on your first pair,  just let us know.  The methods of choice are DPNs, magic loop, or crochet.   Size 4 or 5 knitting needles are used, or size F or G crochet hook.  You pay $10 for the yarn to make your first pair, and after that the yar n is provided for you, thanks to a grant received from Baptist Hospital.

Berea has so much to offer during the summer months, and especially in July.  The Festival of Learnshops is an opportunity to try a new hobby, from mead making to blacksmithing to photography to calligraphy and much, much more.  Our offerings this year are Sheep to Scarf and Sockitecture.  Learn to process, spin, dye, and crochet or just take some of the component classes.  Sockitecture is an introduction to knitting socks, so you understand the structure and composition. Sign up for these and other Learnshops at:

The Berea Craft Festival takes place July 13 - 15 at Historic Indian Fort Theater, just east of town.  Stop in at Fiber Frenzy first and pick up your coupon good for $1 off admission.

S pinning Day is July 21st.  This month we'll have a salad theme - work on  something green, or bring some- thing light and refreshing to share.
This is always a fun day to explore new fibers, try a different technique, or just enjoy the company of a great
bunch.  Stop in from 2-5 pm.

Tuesday, July 24th at 2 pm, begin a new crochet project with Judy.  The Contour Scarf is a beautiful way to use a multicolor skein of sock yarn.  It uses only single crochets and treble crochets and a size G or H hook.  You will be delighted with the final product and want to make it over and over for gifts.  I have already started my 2nd one, and rarely do I make the same thing twice!!  Buy your yarn from us and the class is free.  Repeat class on Saturday, 28th at 2 pm.

Tunisian crochet is one way to make a fabric that looks woven, b ut is  actually crocheted.  It is a very easy technique to learn and works up quickly using a size G or H hook and fingering weight yarn.  Instructions free with purchase of yarn to make a simple scarf.  Saturday, July 28th at 3:30 pm.  Repeated on Tuesday, July 31st at 2:00 pm.

Switch to continental knitting with Judy on Tuesday, July 10th at 3 pm.
Class fee is $20.  Bring your own needles or purchase prior to class.  Learning yarn will be provided.  You will knit faster and more consistently once you have learned to knit continental.  This is not a 'learn to knit' class, so you do have to know how to knit the traditional way in order to switch.
