October 2016

Hours of Operation:
Noon to 5 pm, Mondays and Tuesdays,
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Closed Sundays and Wednesdays.

Fall is in the air! Have you noticed the hint of chill in the air these past few mornings? The crisp air of Autumn will be with us soon, heralding the knitter's favorite time of year.  A walk in the woods will inspire you with blazing red and orange leaves among the rich green of pines and cedar. Can you see it? Can you smell it? Then settle in your favorite chair and continue the experience with a ball of softness and your favorite needles.

Stop in and check out the long gradient fall colors from Queensland Collection in both DK and worsted weights and think about your next shawl or scarf.

Have you seen the soft shimmer of heritage breed longwools from Gwenyth Glynn?   These Shelbyville, Kentucky yarns are soft-spun of Teeswater and Wensleydale fibers and positively glisten. One hank will make a project!  Needing some special softness? We have several local alpaca yarns that are too fluffy for words.  We have several new extra fine merino yarns in the shop that you won't want to miss.

Did you know that Berea, Kentucky was voted the Top Town for Crafts in the entire USA?  http://www.acwshowcase.com/2016top10-1  Color, design, skill and inspiration converge in our little town. Join us to celebrate American Craft Week, October 1 - 16, when Cascade will be on sale at 15 % off! Pick out your next afghan, cast on a sweater, work up a quick hat on a Nifty Knitter, take up Tunisian Crochet, set up that rigid heddle loom - let us help you find your passion.

Join us on  October 8  for a special trunk show from Melanie Gibson of A Yarn Well Spun . Melanie will show us several sample articles featuring her favorite colorways. She is known especially for her soft palette of meadow hues on tweeds as well as luxury fibers.   Join us that day for a special sale on A Yarn Well Spun!

Many of you came to the needle tasting sponsored by Knitter's Pride and took a test drive of their many types of knitting needles. We listened to your input and have stocked the store with Dreamz, Cubics, Karbonz and Basix. But that's not all! They have just introduced a new line called Royale and they are spectacular! These needles feature color coded birchwood with a chrome tip in interchangeable tips (which fit all of your existing cords) and DPN's! The fixed circulars have a super flexible cord and a swivel join - no more kinked cords, ever! The mechanism is smooth as silk and the joints are incredibly even.  You won't want to miss these needles.  Hurry in today!

Therapy
October 18th, (3rd Tuesday)

Everyone needs fiber therapy, so bring your current project or start a new one. Feel free to bring snacks and we will just kick back and eat, laugh, have a good time, and hopefully do a little knitting and/or crocheting.  You will be amazed at how much fun you can have at "Therapy."

This is also a great time to get started on a pair of knitted knockers.

If you are in need of more "Therapy," please drop in any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday afternoon and knit or crochet with us.  Friends are always welcome.

The Berea Weavers and Fiber Guild  will begin this fall with a meeting on Saturday, October 8th, 2 pm, at the Broadway Center in Old Town, (204 N Broadway).  Anyone interested in any fiber craft - weaving, spinning, dyeing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, paper making, sewing, etc. - is welcome. Bring your show and tell of what you did over the summer, and your ideas of what we can do during this fall, winter, and spring.  We hope to see you there.

You will also have an opportunity to learn about Knitted Knockers, a charity project that provides soft, handmade prostheses to breast cancer survivors, free of charge.

At the event Debbonnaire Kovacs will be demonstrating how to make a simple loom on which you can make a small purse with NO SEWING.

Pins & Needles Retreat 2017

Registration is picking up for the retreat. Be sure to get your registration in before your favorite classes are full.

There is a slight difference in materials fees because we are offering 2 classes for free, (Spin Cycle with Amanda and Tech Know How with Teresa), but the paypal programming site would not allow a free class.  Therefore, those classes show a $1 charge for registration.  Anyone who registers for a free class and pays the $1 will get a $1 credit off of a purchase at Fiber Frenzy during retreat weekend.
