FIGHTING BACK AGAINST THE TRUMP ASSAULT
ON HEALTH CARE

The Trump/House of Representatives "health care" bill will make access to health coverage much harder and severely damage quality of care. It will get worse as they continue their assault on Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance.  And employers and insurers will continue to pass on more of the cost (premium, deductibles, copays, out-of-network charges) to employees who cannot afford it.  All this undermines access to care and family financial stability.  Health care is already rigged against working people, and Trump is working to make it worse.

The solution is not more "risk pools" and "high risk pools." We need all of us in the same boat, with care paid for not by regressive and arbitrary user charges but by broad-based funding based on ability to pay.  Having us all in the same boat is how we ensure that the boat is the best it can be.  And the administrative savings that come with such a system are the only way New York can afford to fill the huge holes blown in the State budget by Washington.

That's why we need the New York Health Act (A.4738 Gottfried, S.4840 Rivera) which would create an "Improved Medicare for All" or "single payer" system for New York. It is gaining steam in Albany, and every day the news from Washington makes the need for and support of the bill stronger.
