A Note from our Founder

Nick Tesi

Nick Tesi

TNG Visual Effects Founder

What a great time to be in this industry as it is changing. We are seeing change everywhere and developing into this well-connected, internet-savvy work horse that can find information nearly anywhere. There are more and more solutions to speed up the process, plus better equipment to aid in the endeavor. We look forward to helping you in every way possible during this transition.

An Industry in Transition

 Fighting Back

Enter the VFX industry. It is paradoxical pandemonium. There is much work and many companies, but some are not doing well. During his speech as the newest member of the Founders Award for the VES, Carl Rosendahl spoke poignantly about how we should focus on putting our best foot forward and setting the bar higher in our work in order to give the best possible results. He explained that we are in the 'Golden Age' of VFX, and that it will continue growing globally. As part of that global initiative, we should be fighting back for our share of the work, as opposed to sitting back and being critical, or focusing on work that may be going to other parts of the world.

We at TNG Visual Effects will fight the good fight by adding more value to our 3D scanning services through improving our methods, speeding up turnarounds on models, better textures, and more competitive prices. We are looking at all aspects of the business to make sure we are serving the VFX community as ideally as possible. We would like to grow our company with you, the VFX production that needs 3D scanning to show their vision in movies, episodics, and commercials (through storytelling).

Although the market seems to be moving sideways, (with funding in limbo or stuck in another country, cutting services to the crew, or using the least valuable way to accomplish a task) we are here to help you find a better way to maximize your budget. Call us to discuss how to get the best and most for your production budget.

 Getting Specific

Replicating ANYTHING You Need

Is it enough to say we provide 3D scanning services? We think not! We do much more in order to be a real service provider. Service providers could be more direct and hassle-free if they use a method designed to get the best out of their people and equipment. This is true for most industries. As a professional, you know your job.

We've recently added partial services to our list of services available. We know sometimes you can get scans from other companies that are less than stellar, or not what you requested and your resources have been depleted but you still need to complete your project. We can carry that momentum. We will pick up the data from a point cloud, raw scan, or remesh. If the texture mapping was done poorly, it may need to be retextured. We can do that, too!

We have had this request a few times in the past. Most companies will deliver good data. However, we've run across jobs that require our expertise for only certain parts of the 3D modeling process. Perhaps some data on a future project completed in another country does not meet their demo quality, or your expectations.  That is where we might help the most.  We have an established internal pipeline and can process scan-related data more quickly than other houses, plus our Zbrush or Mud Box sculptors can get your model back on track.

Remember to include us in any bids- whether you need complete 3D models or partial services to repair poor data. Our specialties are people, animals, props, car interiors, car exteriors, trucks, trains, planes, and buildings (facade, interior, or the entire exterior). We also include a full professional photo shoot. The photography is shot with a high-resolution 20 megapixel camera that has a polarizing lens to reduce highlights. The concept is to maintain even lighting while keeping in mind that environmental lighting will usually be added later for a more realistic simulation of light. We shoot in Raw format, so we are able to convert our images to any format our client desires (Jpeg, Tiff, etc).

Lastly, we pride ourselves on being both conveniently mobile and flexible. You know how these projects are constantly a moving target. It is here one day and it's there tomorrow.  It moved up a week and then back two weeks. Can you work on the weekends and holidays, or can you be on a plane tomorrow and work nights? These are questions we hear often. We believe a timely response is a key indicator of the level of service you will continue to receive from your 3D scanning service provider.

Whether you need complete 3D scanning services, or partial services to get your models back on track, we are so sure of our service we guarantee all our work. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.

Character Performance

3D Scanning, MoCap & Facial Performance

The greatest 3D model is still nothing but a statue unless you've tailored your topology for animation. What do you need your character to do?  It can duplicate nearly any movement you wish to animate.  Motion Capture is making great strides to speed up the animation process - for example the ability to have more people in a single volume, automated post-processing, and virtual cameras. Mocap has come a long way. As with everything else, the more it does the more everyone wants it to do.

We scan facial expressions as a base foundation for facial movement, called blend shapes. A facial performance company will take that to completion with dialogue (mouth movement) to bring the entire performance to life.

We have been looking at a number of facial performance systems and would be happy to collaborate with others until we master our own someday. In working with follow VES and VFX folks, we are finding better answers such as using several different technologies that integrate well.

When we see how virtual humans appear and move, we are very critical about them. Likewise, animals must be very lifelike to avoid breaking realism. Analyzing all parts of the pipeline gives you a better appreciation of what is needed to reach the desired end result.

It is great to scan and have a nice piece of still life, but it is more dynamic and appealing to see your scans come to life with motion capture. We are here to answer any questions you might have about blend shapes.

What our clients have to say:

"We've been working with TNG Visual Effects ever since they started, and they've always been our vendor of choice when it comes to 3d scans. Nick and his team have always delivered extra high quality models with blazing fast turnaround, and he's always flexible to adapt to our constantly changing pipeline. He's been working under some pretty aggressive deadlines, with lots of models to deliver in a very short amount of time, but always took it in stride and never missed a delivery. We can't imagine working with anyone else when it comes to high-resolution scans for our characters. Just book the talent, call Nick, send him a template for topology and you'll get a model that you can literally plug and play into your cinematic."
