The film, Noitada de Samba, Foco de Resistencia showcases the influence and role of the Samba at Teatro Opiniao (Opinion Theater) during the resistance. The Teatro Opiniao was a venue in Brazil that celebrated diversity - bringing together civilians and military, black and white, artists and fans, Brazilians and foreigners with one idea - praise the Samba and be happy with that.
Teatro Opini�o (Opinion Theater) featured talents such as Cartola, Paulinho da Viola, Ismael Siva, Riach�o, Martinho da Vila, Clara Nunes, Alcione, Leci Brand�o, Batatinha, D, Ivone Lara, Clementina De Jesus, Lupicinio Rodrigues, Adoniram Barbosa and many more luminaries of the Brazilian Popular Music - the MPB. Audience members included Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis Jr., Maria Bethania, Arnaldo Jabor, Mercedes Sosa, Zuenir Ventura, Millor Fernandes, Elizeth Cardoso and many more.
Director C�ly Leal delivers a pure and sincere story that highlights life in Brazil during the dictatorship through the lens of the Samba.
Playing to full houses at MoMa's "Premiere Brazil", Noitada de Samba, Foco de Resistencia will have an exclusive screening at the Brazilian Endowment for the Arts this Thursday July 21st in the presence of the director C�ly Leal and Teatro Opini�o creators Jorge Coutinho and Leonides Bayer. They will take question after the film is screened with Mr Bayer speaking via Skype from Miami.
Noitadas de Samba, Foco de Resistencia is a gift to us all, no matter our nationality, gender, or creed. The Samba is an art for the world and Teatro Opini�o was its safe haven.
