Finalists Announced in Historic Deerfield King Arthur Flour Heritage Baking Recipe Contest

Winners to be Chosen at Heritage Baking Day on Saturday, December 7 at Historic Deerfield

 

Deerfield, Mass. (December 2, 2013)----Historic Deerfield is pleased to announce the finalists in the Historic Deerfield King Arthur Flour Heritage Baking Recipe Contest. A great number of submissions were received for the contest, which asked amateur bakers to send in their best family baked dessert recipe. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of best story, most unique/creative, and best recipe. Each winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to KingArthurFlour.com/The Baker's Catalogue and a copy of the Baker's Companion Cookbook. 

 

The winners will be chosen on Saturday, December 7, during Heritage Baking Day in Historic Deerfield, by an esteemed panel of judges that includes Dede Wilson, the founder of Bakepedia, The Baker's Resource �, contributing editor to Bon App�tit magazine and the author of 14 books; Marla Miller, Professor of History and Director of the Public Historic Program at the University of Massachusetts; Philip Zea, President of Historic Deerfield; and Chef Sarah Klein and Emily Wholey of the Deerfield Inn/Champney's Restaurant & Tavern.

Heritage Baking Day at Historic Deerfield will kick off Heritage Holiday, a month-long series of traditional holiday events. In addition to the announcement of the winners of the Heritage Baking Recipe Contest at 2 p.m., guests at Historic Deerfield on Saturday, December 7 will enjoy giftmaking, gingerbread cookie decorating, horse-drawn wagon rides, open hearth cooking, demonstrations from the King Arthur Flour Baking Education Center and museum tours from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Caroling by the Connecticut Yuletide Carolers will be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  All activities will be held at or begin at the Visitor Center at Hall Tavern on Old Main Street in Deerfield, Mass.  

 

Admission is $14 for adults (18+), $5 for children (6-17), free for children under 6, members and Deerfield residents.  There is an additional charge of $2.50 per cookie for guests who wish to decorate a gingerbread cookie.
