Walk-a-Thon Season!!
  Molly Susan WGUMC
Our first fall fundraiser is our JYM walk-a-thon, on Sunday November 6th at Cambrian Park! Students should have picked up envelopes at youth group, and ahve begun to ask for donations already!

Students -  Please ask your church members, your family, your friends, your neighbors - anyone you can! If you can collectively raise $18,000 we will have a leader dunk tank at an upcoming YG event, where you can dunk Lisa, Kat and any other willing leaders & pastors!

Adults - If you plan to give money to students who ask you, remember to bring small bills and/or your checkbook to church and youth group events!

We know fundraising is not the most fun or easy thing to do, but it is essential to the JYM budget and in providing scholarships to our students! Thank you all for your support!

To make a donation online, click the link below and write the name of the student you are sponsoring in the line item with Walkathon

HS Mission Trip Date OFFICIALLY
We have chosen an official Mission Trip date! W e will leave as a JYM family for Crownpoint, New Mexico to work alongside, serve and understand the Navajo people on  Friday, June 16th and we intend to come back late on Saturday, June 24th or early June 25th , depending on a few things,

The good news about going to this site is that it is fairly cheap to fly in and out of Albuquerque, NM and it is relatively close to where we are so if you student needs to come late or leave early, it's a viable option.

Please reserve your spot for this trip now- no money down yet,  but it help us to best plan for leaders and numerical commitment with Next Step Ministries.  You are welcome to invite friends.

Joke of the week:

Q.   Who was the greatest female businessperson in the Bible?

A.   Pharaoh's daughter. She went down to the bank of the Nile and drew out a little prophet.

We had a great week of programming last week! Our first WGHS lunch club, Feed the Need on Wed, and a great documentary viewing of Screenagers on Sunday. Shout out to Josh Asada who helped us in the sound booth on Sunday!

I want to pay special attention to Feed the Need. This week we tried our hand at BBQ for the very first time, and implemented student leaders as teachers of skills. We also received a generous response of gratitude of people we delivered meals too. I want to share a few quotes with you:

"Thank you so much. We received [the meal] I can't say thank you enough. It made our night. Both [Husband] and I were full of emotion when we received it."

"The whole choir could dine from all the food the Youth Group brought to me last night!  He brought it in and put it on the counter. What a feast!"

"Thank you for thinking of us.    It is great to get a break from cooking but even better to know somebody cares about you when you are feeling alone"

So thank you to the weekly volunteers who make this program possible, and the parents who dropped in last week to help teach BBQ skills and help us get the kitchen cleaned in a timely manner. Thank you to the students who take their tasks seriously. Feed the Need has blessed many people - some who  are church members who have never had students in the JYM, some who are current or former JYM families, and some with no affiliation to our church or ministry at all - but a friend of a friend recommend them.

We are also grateful to God for blessing this ministry and being present with us on these nights. We do not talk about the gospel much at Feed the Need, but I see our students living it out as they grow in community together and serve the community outside our walls.

Saturday Oct. 1st @ WGUMC
Free BBQ for all!
Homeless outreach
We will be collecting new socks for this event. We still need a lot, please drop off NEW socks at the WGUMC office, or on Saturday by 10:00am.

The BBQ is from 12 - 2pm but there will be services provided starting at 10am. Students if you need volunteer hours for JYM or for school, please come by around 10:30 to help us set up for the BBQ.

Feel free to download the image above and hand out the information to anyone you think may be interested! If there are some people without homes you see on your route to work or in your neighborhood, think about handing them a flier

Please note that even though this event takes place in October, it is being hosted at WGUMC instead of AHUMC

Sunday Oct. 2nd @ AHUMC
Worship Concert! 5 - 7ish pm
Bobby Jo Valentine's music exists outside the lines of any genre, but his music's thoughtful lyrics and catchy melodies reach listeners on all paths of life.

"Fly" Bobby Jo Valentine

He performed about a year ago at AHUMC and was incredible! We are so happy the church is once again hosting him. Please make time to join us for this great evening of worship. This concert is for all ages. Students can come by themselves, or with parents. Parents, bring your kids or enjoy a night dedicated to your own spiritual growth.

20 Hour Halloween Blitz!!!

Join us for a JYM event unlike one we have ever done before! There are a lot of pieces to this event, so take time to read. Your student can join us for all or some of the event!

Saturday at 7:00pm - All students meet at AHUMC (eat dinner beforehand) Then we will split up by grades for off campus activities.

Jr. High - We will be going to a HUGE corn maze & pumpkin patch together

Sr. High - We will be doing a scavenger hunt on the streets of San Jose at night! Possible option of a movie too

Students will return back to the campus at different times, but bed time will be *no later* than 2:00am, and probably earlier than that :)

In the morning on Sunday we will wake up for breakfast and then go to service at AHUMC at 10:00am together

Following church, we will set-up for our neighborhood Halloween Party outreach event! We did this last year at AHUMC, but instead of having a Halloween party for our teens, we will be hosting a Halloween party for the neighbors who live near AHUMC.

From Noon - 3:30pm, We will provide lunch, pumpkin decorating, inflatables and games for the families who join us. Younger siblings and students from our churches are also welcome to join us.

We encourage everyone who comes to wear a costume!

Teens can participate in some of the activities, but we will want them to have specific jobs and help the neighborhood kids really enjoy their time there. They can earn service hours for this event.

Starting tomorrow (September 28th) through Sunday (Oct. 2nd) Kat will be out of town at a conference called "Why Christian" in Chicago. While she will have access to her laptop, she wants to be intentional about spending time recharging her mind and spirit, as well as growing in her own faith life. If you have questions that require a fast or immediate response, please direct them to Lisa for the next few days.

On that note, we have a lot of big events this weekend that are time laborious in planning and prepping. As Lisa focuses on those events, and hosts her entire in-law family for Ryan's birthday, It would be very helpful if you have a question about an upcoming JYM event, you use these channels of information before pinging Lisa.

1. This E-mail! (Good job, you are already reading it!)
2. Our Google Calendar (linked on side bar)
3. Our Instagram page (JYMRocks)
4. Our Facebook page
5. Our Twitter
6. Chuch's weekly e-mails
7. Our website
8. Text a friend in the JYM!

Lisa and Kat are always available for families in the midst of crisis, so please never hesitate to message us about those things. We are not planning on ignoring incoming texts & e-mails, but we know our responses will be slower this week and hope you can look to the many information pathways we have provided you for any possible questions :)

Thank you for taking the time to read!
