DISCOVER, CONNECT, TAKE ACTION
Girl Scout Troop Hangs with State Representative
Last month, Girl Scout Troop 70553 spent the day with State Representative and senatorial candidate Mary Still! Seventeen girls and five parents rode the city bus downtown to Wabash Station in Columbia and then walked to Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream shop, the columns at Frances Quadrangle, and then to Peace Park to climb "the best climbing tree, ever" as the girls discovered last year.
"Mary is an amazing person - giving, energetic, funny, and down to earth. She is, I'm guessing, the world's best troop leader as well!" said Kim Kraus, troop leader. "Mary had the girls singing songs right off the bat in the bus shelter. The bus ride was a hoot as the girls showed off and sang our West Boulevard song for her [called] We are One.
"We shuffled and squeezed together over and over in order to give up seats for older folks and parents with little ones that got on the bus and needed a seat," stated Kim. "Later came more rousing songs and a spontaneous 10-girl relay on the lawn in front of the columns. When we first got to the columns and before I knew how it happened Mary was up on top of them horsing around with the girls! She took the time to speak with the girls as individuals during our activity as well."
