Winter Road Conditions 
 

Beginning November 1, all trucks must carry chains over mountain passes. All vehicles must carry chains inside Mount Rainier National Park.

 

Cayuse Pass and Chinook Pass remain open. Typically, these passes close mid-November to early December.

 

White Pass is open year-round.  

 

Skate Creek Road remains open.

 

Forest Service Road 25 and 99 remain open to Windy Ridge until closed by snowfall.

The White Pass Scenic Byway is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization serving Lewis County. The White Pass Scenic Byway was created for the purpose of public education and promotion of the byway's natural and cultural resources as well as enhancing the assets and resources located along the byway.  

The White Pass Scenic Byway (US Hwy 12) from I-5 to Naches is an exceptional journey, offering travelers experiences of wildlife, outstanding scenic and natural landscapes, and unlimited outdoor recreation. The location between Mt. Rainier National Park and Mt. St. Helens National Monument and Mt. Adams is a premier recreation destination.

Find Your Christmas Tree in the 
National Forest

Permits are now available to cut a Christmas tree from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Remember! All fourth-grade students are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit as part of the Every Kid in a Park Initiative.   

Permits are available at the following locations:
  • Cowlitz Valley Ranger District in Randle (weekdays only)
  • Blanton's Market in Packwood
  • Fischer's Market in Randle
  • Randle One-Stop            
  • Rimrock Grocery Store (weekends only)
