Council Awards Downtown Manager Contract to Glendale Chamber of Commerce

The Glendale City Council unanimously approved a contract awarding Downtown Manager services for the city to the Glendale Chamber of Commerce at Tuesday evening’s formal council meeting.

The Glendale Historic Downtown District has long been a priority focus for the city. The city’s Economic Development staff recommended using the services of an independent Downtown Manager under the umbrella of a private organization to develop a diverse, cohesive and unified perspective on strategic priorities for Glendale’s Historic Downtown District. The Downtown Manager will be working with all business interests to have a voice in shaping their future.

The first efforts of the Downtown Manager will be to connect with every member of the downtown business community and invite them to work collaboratively to identify their priorities and establish coordinated strategies to assist their businesses.

“Glendale’s Downtown is not only the heart of our community, it is the soul of our community,” said Mayor Jerry Weiers following the vote. “To achieve the council’s vision, we must support a vibrant city center that we are all proud of while facilitating the sustainability of our Downtown Glendale businesses. This priority requires targeted, consistent support and focus. Through our significant partnerships over the years, the Glendale Chamber of Commerce has consistently proven their commitment to our downtown and I am confident they will do a phenomenal job.”

Glendale Chamber Board & Committee Updates
Marketing Committee
In October 2015 the Glendale Chamber Marketing Committee initiated a Blog Project, "Membership Spotlight."

Our latest blog features Karma Tattoo Studio, a true leader in the tattoo industry.

"Located on the Northwest corner of 59th Avenue and Peoria, just North of Home Depot, sits a commercial office suite that’s home to Karma Tattoo Studio. It has an exterior that disguises just how big and inviting it is on the inside. Dany Shepherd, tattoo artist and co-owner with his wife Angela, is an Arizona native and 3rd generation artist. Dany has been honing his craft for just a little over seven years and his exceptional skill is very evident when you see his portfolio of work! Dany explained that the reason he chose to open his business in Glendale was two-fold. Originally, he and a business partner were going to open a shop in a neighboring West Valley city but the licensing and coding regulations there lumped tattoo studios into a category that made things uniquely difficult to run a studio there, so he began to look elsewhere. He came across an office suite here in Glendale which had a layout he really loved. The suite used to be a dental school so it had patient rooms with a main lobby. This gives each tattoo artist a personal space to work in with their clients and a salon-feel to the waiting area. Dany feels that tattoos are a personal journey for each person. “Each one is uniquely yours and tells a very personal story, so it’s important that you, the client, feels comfortable and has a good relationship with your artist. We can provide that in this setting,” he stated.

Karma Tattoo Studio has procedures and standards that exceed what the State of Arizona or the City of Glendale currently requires..."

A Message from New Member,
Main Street Business Services
"I am proud to be a new member of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. I have been hearing, from many sources, about how great your organization is.

I have been a small business advisor for 40+ years. My passion is working with small business owners. There are so many demands on their time and they have to wear so many “hats” to be successful. A larger business can afford to hire staff to wear most of those “hats." I use my accounting, marketing, and business background to “fill in the gaps," at affordable rates.

I look forward to meeting my fellow small business owners, each and every one an entrepreneur."

We are excited to welcome Jack of Main Street Business Services, LLC to the Glendale Chamber!
