Over the almost 9 ½ years of being a Medicare Specialist, my clients would ask me is there a way of knowing what doctors accept Original Medicare? My response would be “In all my years of being a Medicare Specialist, I never ran across, read, or was told that there was a “go-to” website or government website built that would list all the doctors that Medicare (or the government listed) that would accept the Medicare reimbursement rates.” (also called, Fee For Service providers).
Yes, not all physicians take Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).
My reply would be to “call the billing office of your doctor and ask if the office is able to bill Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and/or is the office a Fee For Service provider (to Medicare … the government)?”
WELL …. while online (the internet), I happened to run across a “physician compare” site. I thought, “Wow, this is valuable information." I am always getting asked about how a Medicare eligible person would know what doctors took Medicare and who accepted the Medicare reimbursement rates.
Now, finding this website changes everything! Go to:
www.medicare.gov/physiciancompare
. I can’t tell you how exact it is. So I would always double check with the billing department of your doctor’s office, but it is a good place to start.
