Lincoln Announces Freedom
Grade Range: 6-8, 9-12

On September 22, 1862, Lincoln promised to sign an Emancipation Proclamation on New Year's Day. "All persons," Lincoln wrote, "held as slaves within any State in rebellion shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free." But abolitionists were unsure whether he would keep his promise. The Dust Bowl: A New Film by Ken Burns

This new film by Ken Burns airs on IPTV, November 18 and 19. The film chronicles the environmental catastrophe that--throughout the 1930s--destroyed the farmlands of the Great Plains, turned prairies into deserts, and unleashed a pattern of massive, deadly dust storms that for many seemed to herald the end of the world.
