Eye on Idioms

Grade Range: 3-5, 6-8

Eye on Idioms can be used to engage students in a study of seven idioms. After viewing the literal representation of each idiom, students are asked to complete the sentence by selecting the correct idiom from the list, then explain the metaphorical meaning.

Choose from different instrumental samples and electronic drum tracks to create a new track and figure out the correct tempo in beats per minute.

Acid Lake

Grade Range: K-2, 3-5, 6-8

This interactive activity introduces acid rain - how it affects aquatic ecosystems, the difference between acid rain and normal rain, and how certain species, as well as entire ecosystems, react to emissions from industrial and other man-made sources of pollution that can cause acid rain. The activity also explains the pH scale and how it is used to measure acidity.

Iowa Public Television is looking for middle school science teachers interested in a free online course. Iowa middle school science teachers have the opportunity to take the course, Global Climate Change Education, and earn graduate credit and AEA PD Online credit.
