Be a Tourist in Your Town

Tourists flock to Charleston from all over the country (and around the world!) for its historical buildings, unparalleled culinary scene, southern charm and miles of beaches. But when was the last time you took a day to explore the beauty of downtown Charleston and experience all that the Holy City has to offer? This month is a great time to be a tourist in your own town--the Charleston Farmer's Market reopens at Marion Square on April 8th and the Festival of Houses and Gardens runs through the 22nd. Start your day as a "tourist" off with brunch at the Farmer's Market, followed by a morning history walk, and then grab lunch at one of Charleston's newest hot spots. Round out the day with an afternoon tour of a historic Charleston home or garden.

This year marks the 70th annual Festival of Houses and Gardens. See Charleston's historic residences and gardens like you've never see them before--tours and educational events provide a unique opportunity to learn about the city's architecture, history, and culture. 

If you're a bird-lover, grab your binoculars and head over to the Center for Birds of Prey for this 2 hour walk and bird of prey demonstration.

Battle of Charleston April 7-9th
Calling all history buffs, this living military timeline features historical re-enactments spanning the following: Pirates, Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam living history.

Charleston Race Week April 20-23rd
Don't miss the largest keelboat regatta in the Western Hemisphere! Now in its 21st year, there are numerous inshore and offshore races to participate in and tons of fun on land during Race Week too!

Don't miss this wonderful golf tournament, dinner and auction at Wescott Plantation benefiting a great cause!

Help celebrate the local shrimping and fishing industry at this fun festival featuring a boat parade, live music, craft show and lots of free activities!
