CHORAL NEWS
MS Chorus News
  • Students at PLP welcomed multiple Grammy and Emmy award winner David L. Cook.  Mr. Cook has invited the MS choral groups and the US Pride Singers to sing at the AMG Heritage Awards on November 15th.  PLP choirs will be featured singing the opening number at the event with Billy Gilman.  The AMGs will be nationally televised.  If you are interested in attending the black tie event, you can purchase tickets through Ms. Young, or go to www.artistsmusicguild.com.  Forms for performers need to be returned to Ms. Young by Wednesday of this week. 
  • MS Show Choir will start meeting this week on Thursdays after school.  Parent pick up is 4:15pm.  Consider joining us! We have plenty of room for more singers. 
  • Our Fall Concert day has been changed due to athletic conflicts.  We are looking at Monday, November 3rd at 6:30pm.   Check back for more information.

US Choral News
  • The following members of Pride Singers will be auditioning for North Carolina's Honor Choir. They will be auditioning September 25th. Wish them luck! Tanner Howard, Reagan Autry, Jake Wilson
  • Attention US Choral Parents: please be looking for the 1st semester concert schedule list going home with your child the week of September 15 - 21st. 
  • The Pride Singers and the US Strings are working on a collaborative piece for the fall concert. It was a treat to rehearse together Wednesday! We're all very excited to debut the finished work! 
  • Pine Lake's chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is being reinstated this year. This society is a program of the National Association for Music Education and recognizes music students for their efforts and accomplishments in music on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, leadership,and service to their school and community. The organization's high standards serve to challenge students to greater effort and achievement and to encourage the pursuit of excellence. Selected students will be inducted Monday, September 22nd, 2014 followed by a light reception. 


THEATRE NEWS
Congratulations!
  • The following students auditioned for and received roles in our Fall Play, "Tomorrow's Wish" by Wade Bradford -Rachel McCurry, Hannah Hjerth, Billy Martin, Gia Magliulo, David Embrey, Alanna Miranda, Claire Brule, Jordan Antonic, Allie DeVries, Grace Wilson, Peter Quinn, Jacob Messer, Sarah Willis
  • Mark your calendars now to attend our Production of "Tomorrow's Wish." Show Dates:  Oct. 23, 25, and 26.  More info and ticket sales at a later date!
International Thespian Society
  • PLP's Troupe #7405 Inducted 27 new students into the Thespian Society on Thursday, September 4th.  Students in the Thespian Society will be involved in planning theatrical events, working on service projects, and helping with PLP events. The induction was a lovely candlelit ceremony featuring a Spoken Word performance by our own Sarah Willis, Junior.
EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW.....
  • Walking through the halls of PLP, I am daily asked the question, "Mrs. Howard, what musical are we doing this year?"  That is the big question and the secret will be revealed on Friday, September 19th. Excitement is building - get ready to be a part of another fantastic PLP Spring Production!

BAND AND ORCHESTRA NEWS
  • We are recruiting band members for the Blue Crew, Pine Lake's Athletic Pep Band!  If your student is interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Ms. Wahl in Fine Arts 103 or by email at [email protected]

ART NEWS
US Art 
  • Students in Beginning Art have completed their first project of the year and we are now beginning our journey through the Elements of Art. Their "line" project will explore how to create an abstract piece that uses expressive lines.
  • Drawing & Painting II are wrapping up their work on value and shading.  They have been working very hard on how to create realistic pencil drawings.
  • Advanced Art students are also working on realism and are finishing large-scale pencil drawings.  Their drawings of strawberries are serving as a fitting send-off to summer. 
  • National Art Honor Society will hold its first meeting of the year this week.  We will be welcoming our new members, electing officers, and preparing ideas and events for the year.  Our induction ceremony will be October 7th, at 6:30 and will be held in the Fine Arts building lobby.
