Art 1 is wrapping up their first painting project, a "Creative Color Wheel."  Students created an original composition to showcase each of the 12 hues of the color wheel, all of which they mixed using only the three primary colors.

Drawing and Painting II students are beginning a unit on Social Commentary art, which explores how artwork can be used as a powerful advocacy and educational tool.  Each student has chosen a topic to bring more awareness to and will create an original artwork to educate their audience.

Advanced Art students have just completed an oil pastel project, depicting a trio of oranges in different states.

Currently the 3D Design class is working on a PSA to raise awareness for issues of their choice.  Some examples are: Drunk Driving, Domestic Violence, Gambling, Obesity, and smoking.  These PSA's are mobiles, based on the work of Alexander Calder.

Lower School Art classes are focusing on the following:

Kindergarten is currently creating a piece of abstract art, "Concentric Circles". They have learned about the artist Wassily Kandinsky and are enjoying creating what they refer to as "bull's-eye" paintings.

First grade is learning about the difference between warm and cool colors. The drawings that they are doing of their hot dogs and cool cats crack me up!

Second grade is focusing on sculpture. They are creating abstract relief sculptures. The material was donated by a gracious family and eventually the entire Lower School will be working on sculptures. They are very excited to get started first.

Third grade is studying the work of abstract artist, Paul Klee. His use of fish in his several of his pieces inspired the multimedia piece they are currently creating.

Fourth grade is also working on sculptures. They however are working on abstract animal mask.

Finally fifth graders are learning about the technique of resist. The fun whimsical "Leapin Lizards" they are creating are going to be fantastic!
